engine knocking??
Recently noticed that my '88 hurricane has has some strange engine knocking after a carb clean. I've check the oil and perfect level. It makes a clank and what sounds like metal to metal scrapes. Any idea's what it could be? i bought it with about 9k miles and it just hit the 16k mark...im about 100 miles over it as of today. Before the carbs were cleaned i forgot to mention it was reving at 1000 rpms now its at the 1.5 mark...could it possible be that or maybe its lighter oil then i should be putting in it, ive been changing the oil every 1,500 -2,000 miles with HP4 Honda Genuine Oil.
i would love to hear some feed back. Thank you for you time.

RE: engine knocking??
Gotta love the CCt and CC.....grrrrrrrrr. RPM's should be at around 1200 at idle. I'd bump it up a bit so you dont hear the rattle though. Balancer is okay? Dont forget the oil chain and the alternator chain too, they can be noisy too at idle. Mine is! I'd run a thicker oil in the Summer like a 20w50 oppose to a 10w40 IMO.

Sounds like Shadow has the answer. I replaced just the tensioner and the noise returned in about 1500 miles. Do a searchfor CCT, you'll find all kinds of advice. It's a common problem.
