Default Engine Knocking

Seems as if the engine is starting to knock a little lately. It's an '07 with 1,478 miles on it. Changed the oil at 900 miles, put in Mobil 1 10w-40 Racing.... is it just the engine still getting broken in.?? Thanks

Is the knocking you hear a spark-knock type pinging sound? My '07 has very noticeable spark-knock at anything past ~1/4 throttle, when running in the lower RPMs.A localplace sells 110 octane race gas, but I don't want to have to run that all the time. I did some timing tests yesterday and was absolutely blown away to find that the ECU does not pull back the timing advance as the throttle is increased. I may have a bad TP or MAP sensor. If those check out OK I'll install my wideband A/F meter and see if it's just running lean at that RPM range.

The engines in these bikes are noisy. You can search any 1000RR message board and find people saying the same thing as you are. Mine's "pinged" from day one.

Except for the pinging, my engine is actually rather quiet, less noisy than my '98 ZX-9R. Sportbike forums have a very low signal to noise ratio for technical information, you'll hear every opinion imaginable. Most people can't differentiate spark knock from piston slap, cam chain rattle, or othervalve train noise. Some people are just plain clueless. I remember one guy saying that 110 octane gas would blow up my engine. I'm better off asking for people's observations, not their opinions...

i would take it back to the dealer....let them hear it....get them to acknowledge they hear it.....open a empty ticket stating they heard the noise, and document the date and milage and give you a copy of it so its in the system....if there is any problem down the road after the one year...honda will be allot more leanient on covering repairs....i worked at a honda M/C dealershop for 6 years through HS and college....

but yeah, all sportbike engines are noisy....but i doubt that anyone with a clue would confuse spark knock with crank knock...

I was just curious to it, because my GSXR's in the past didn't have this. It's a cross between a ping and a knock. But like what was stated earlier, it's more in the lower rpm's.
