need help power
Ok I just bought my first cbr. Its a 98. This is my second bike I have ownd but my last was a kawi. But pord owner of a honda now. Any way the bike had no power. Bat was dead I charge it over night still no power when I turn key so I look at fuses and every thing and the main fuse was burnt out. So I put a 30 amp like what was in their and my regulator was smokin and it pop that fuse again. So I disconcet the r/r and the bike start and rund but only tell the bat dies. So I go and bye a regulator/ retifire and put it in its all good. Didn't pop fuse and seems to hold a charge to I ride it down the street a few times and bike is good. So a few hours later I go and take the bike out and it coold so I need to turn the choke up and let it warm up a bit. Any way I take off and all the suden the bike dies on me. Now it startd bike up once I turn the choke up again. So I take of again bike dies a few min later. So what the hell and I crank it over about five times and the bat is dead. My question is did I not let the bike warm up that long and it juct cutout. Are is my bat so dead I need a new one. What to do. I did a volt test and it was holding charge before I took it out. What do u think I should do.
The regs are so p*ss poor on these bikes, my theory is that the reg you replaced made history of your present battery. As the reg went off, your bikes was running off the battery, they recover, but eventually reach the point of no return.
your rectifier/regulator converts the stators power from AC to DC. If your rectifier was going bad, there is a good change your battery was seeing AC voltage and is now ruined. The best thing to do right now is get the battery load tested. take it to a place like autozone and they can load test it for you and its usually free to do so. A simple volt test really isnt enough to tell if the battery is putting out enough amps to sustain operation of the bike.
Did the bike turn over as fast as normal? Or was it a bit slower? If it was a bit slower, you may have lost a cell or two in the battery.
On another note, its always a good idea to let your bike fully warm up before you start to ride it. Especially on a cold blooded bike as you will run the risk of flooding the bike that much easier.
It almost sounds like a fuel issue rather than a battery issue though. It is possible that two seperate things happened at the same time.

Well it happen again. Now pushing my bike home. Seems like its not getting fuel. Even when its at idel with the choke on it will jump like it should but then after a few more min it will start acting like its not running low and want to die. But going to test the bat and if its bad and I get a new one and still acts up time to take her to the shop..
Well I got her running!!! I put a new bat in and it work. I think I was low on gas that was the holw thing. I put the bat in and it would not start. It had gas in it I could see it but it was low. So I put more in her and she startded. But in the mean time I was turning the choke and I broke it. So once I get her running and driving as soon as I let off the gas she dies. But she starts right up. Its just going to be a pain in the *** to start her in the morn.
