Default Valve adjustment

Greetings all,

I recently bought a CBR1000F 1987, and I must say I love it I want to set the valves as I can hear some ticking 'n' tapping on the right side. However in the manual it sez I need 2 honda tools to aid the adjustment. My question is can it be done without these honda tools, and how tricky is it without them? Thanks in advance for any help, great forum you got going here.

Regards

Noam

No need for special tools. Just use the usual ones.
Not much space, but still doable.

I've done it w/o the Honda tool. I checked all intakes and exhausts and that was very easy. I also adjusted all intakes, which was easy to. I believe adjusting the exhausts could be more difficult since it is harder to see and handle these adjusters on the engine front. I used a torque wrench to secure the lock nuts after adjustment, it could be costly if one is loose and goes into the engine when running and it is easy to over-turn so the adjustment screw is stressed or even may brake.

A suggestion is that you check the valve lash first, and buy the Honda tool if necessary. People having used the tool seem to be quite happy with it, for intakes it is not necessary though.

Thanks for your response very helpful. These are the codes for the honda tools 07GMA-ML70120 and 07GMA-ML70110, do you know where I can purchase these from if needed? I have searched on the internet but no luck so far.

I think ronayers.com can get you the tools, but they charge almost full price for tools (instead of their normally lower prices)
