01 929 Starts right up then immediately quits
Looking for some help on this one. I picked up an 01 929 with 6,600 miles on it for a winter street fighter project. Got it all back together and went to start it and it would start right up then quit right away. I thought maybe air in the system so I kept trying and after about 10 - 12 tries it stayed running and was fine. I rode it 4 times on short rides and no problems. Ran perfect. Now the issue. I went to ride it yesterday and it did the same thing as when I first tried to start it. It fires right up then just quits like I hit the kill switch. I turn the ignition off and on again (or the kill switch) and the fuel pump primes and it will start and quit. It never fails to start but wont stay running. I checked and the power to the pump stops after the bike starts so I jumped it to see if it was just a fuel issue and it is not. I kept the pump running and it still quits like something is cutting off the ignition. Very frustrating to say the least! This bike is like brand new mechanically, the only thing it needed was a new battery & tires, but has not been on the road since 2012. Any help would be much appreciated!

Have you checked the kill switch to see if it's got a bad connection? Other things I've seen is burned wires in the connectors for the front harness under the right fairing top piece and at the ecm.
Have you pulled the pump out to make sure it's clean after sitting?
What's your cold idle at?

Gotta put an ohm meter on on the switches to test them. Test the kill switch and the side stand switch. If the pump quits when it dies, check the BAS. My BAS was acting up and did kinda the same thing, but it also died after 40 min of running, like clockwork, then would start maybe, and start and die a few times maybe, then work great for 40 more minutes.

I’m not sure what’s going on with those other bikes, but defective BAS would disable your entire EFI system like you had kill-switch OFF. No power to turn on engine-stop relay. No fuel-pump prime, no power at ECU, or injectors or coils. Bike would never start in 1st place. It’s just crank over & over forever like with kill-switch off…. Until battery dies.
If you’re having problems with your bike, start new thread and give as much detail as possible. It might be something really simple that can be tracked down with multimeter and fixed in 5-minutes.
