Default Fuel issues

A while ago I posted about starting issues my bike was having, I removed a suspect Power Commander and that improved the issue. However, I still have issues starting the bike cold, no issues when hot. Once started it spits out white smoke /steam for 30 seconds or so then no smoke from then on. I smell petrol when I have these starting issues and I'm pretty sure I have petrol in the oil. I removed the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose and it was dry but I can't shake the thought it is faulty, anything else? Would leaky injectors have the exact same symptoms? Or fuel pump? As soon as the bike has started it runs absolutely fine, no hesitation through the entire rev range and pulls very strongly. I get pretty poor fuel consumption too. Any help much appreciated.

Did you cycle the key several times to run the fuel pump while the vacuum hose was removed from the FPR? What you describe sounds like bad FPR. Have you checked the spark plugs?

Hi, yes cycled it many times, also stripped out airbox and checked for leaking injectors today, couldn't find any evidence of leaks. Haven't checked the spark plugs, not sure when they were last done, I only picked the bike up in December. Slowly working my way through maintenance bits, changed the oil, flushed through the brake fluid, cleaned and lubed air filter, cleaned and adjusted chain etc. Still want to change the plugs and coolant but been caught up with this issues so not done that yet. Could old plugs give the symptoms I have? Namely the difficult cold starts and rich smell and possibly fuel in the oil?
Thanks.
