Fight it, they are reducing them or dropping them. They don't want it going to the supreme court because it's a violation of the 8th amendment.

Yeah you should fight it! These laws are getting ridiculous! THe reason they are getting more severe is because they aren't working! All across the country they are getting more and more of these laws.

Did you know in Colorado it's illegal to do a tank sit or even side saddle? They have stuff written in their laws for it.

Get with ABATE in your state, and see what they can do to fight for biker's rights!

Well, motorcycles aren't safe to ride, cars aren't safe to drive, and it's generally a bad idea to be around someone who is coughing these days, but you don't get tickets for those now do you?

Stunts aren't dangerous if you're good at them. just like cars and bikes in general aren't dangerous if you know how to drive them. I'm not sure how the swine flu ties in here, but you get my drift.

I say if you wreck into someone on a wheelie give that person a ticket, but if you're not causing any harm to anyone who cares?

And for the whole argument of "you distract other drivers", we ALL know that cagers are distracted by all the music, cell phones, PDAs, and DVDs they got going on in their cars. I have driven by PLENTY of people doing wheelies and never had a wreck.

As for tank sits and side saddle, I'll let you chase me through some twisties with me on my tank, it's all about counterbalance.

Dude you knew the consequences... I feel for ya tho. Wheelies are every bit illegal as DUI down here now... seems a bit off but the fact remains that when you are on one tire and an unexpected obstacle appears you don't have the capacity to take quick evasive action.

Justify it all you want, but two tires on the ground is safer than one. That's a fact.

And tank sitting and side saddle? Seriously, you can't see how that ups your risk (and more importantly the risk to others) by a huge margin?

Sure, you can drive a car from a seated position on the center console but would you support that being legal too?

Not trying to bash by any means but lets have a little perspective here...

Bummer about the fine man... that's rough!

i just want to add, a while back i joined the bayarea forum and one of my first posts was on the LEO forum section figuring i would get a lot of good helpful response from officers themselves and anyone else on the forum knowing anything about the law. well after a FULL 2 pages of posts with nothing but but blame, and giving me more of a lecture then the officer that wrote me the ticket i ditched that forum my first post! that forum had alot i liked about it which is why i joined but unfortunately my post in the LEO gave me a horrible impression on the forum and i closed the door for good!

so i just want to say i love how this site has a lot of positive feed back. even the feed back ( MOST of the feed back ) that is not supportive is at least looked at through the mind of an everyday person with the sympathy that a lot of these laws and rules now days are ****. i agree with a lot of them ( dont get me wrong ) but am a strong advocate for those who disagree with these laws and that the penalty is outrageous! We only live once and if we want to put it on the line everyday for a thrill ( ONLY, away from other pedestrians/people ) i really think the law should look away at our self stupidity and ignore it unless someone "BESIDES" us is in harms way!

i dont think they stop anything, its like human reproduction itself, a biker goes down and two more are born behind it. its a cycle that i dont think will be slowed down and definitely wont be stopped.

you have to look at it from the LEOs side too. The way they see it if they let you go today because theres no a soul in sight, whats to say you wont be doing it tomorrow in 5 o'clock traffic? Get what I am saying?

The way I see it is, if its done in traffic or in rural areas, then you are just asking for trouble. If on the back roads I dont really see a big problem with it, but when caught, we're caught n just need to face the music!

It sucks I agree, but it is what it is lol

Problem is the 1% that is doing it "away from other pedestrians / people" is represented by the 99% doing it down I95 at 4:30 pm. Florida enacted that massive fine in an attempt to deter the more blatant acts of stupidity. For every 1 rider doing a wheelie down a deserted backroad there are 98 who will do them down a high traffic road (+ that 1 twit that would do a wheelie in the middle of a school playground during recess if he could)

I ain't gonna bang on stunters (actually wish I had a 2nd bike to try some myself). Can't cause then I'd have to bang on damn near everyone that's tackled the Dragon (what is the speed limit there anyways? ). I'd have to bang on myself for teaching the kid at work a lesson about attempting to race everyone at the job (gave him a 5 sec head start). Hopefully we're all adult enough to admit we've broken the law at some point, in some way while riding.
