Default Fresh Dented Tank

Well last night I finally got up the courage to dent my nice and pretty unscratched tank LOL. We went to a skate board shop and got some nice grip tape for $5 for a sheet that will last for a while (probably 3 tanks??) And I got a 1lb. dead blow hammer from a local liquidation store for $8 and some tag board to make a template for the tape for another couple of $$. It turned out 100X better than I was thinking it was going to and is pretty smooth. I only lost about 1/2 of a gallon of capacity and the tank almost looks like its suppost to be like that. I might work with it a little more to make it a little wider, but it feels pretty good right now. My camera seems to be working at the moment so I'll snap some pics of it tomorrow when I get up. I was going to test it out today and see how it felt doing spreaders, but it rained 75% of the day. I was going to buy a tank off of ebay and dent that, but I'm glad I didn't waste my money doing that because it wouldn't have been worth it. So if your thinking about doing it, just dent it and don't look back, it took me about a half hour to get up the nerve to actually hit it with the hammer and after the first blow I thought aaaahhhhh **** its going to turn out like crap, but nope it turned out good.

Ok sorry about the long piontless ramble, but I just thought I would share my experience with you, but if your in my area and don't have the guts to do yours come up here and I'll smash it in for you

Just wondering what this does. What are spreaders? What is the grip tape/emplate stuff all for?

Spreaders are when you sit on the tank while doing a wheelie and spread your legs out. The grip tape is for skate boards and it keeps your feet stuck to the board, but if you put it where you dent your gas tank it keeps your a$$ stuck in one place so you can't slide. The poster board was for making a template, after I dented the tank rather than waste a bunck of the grip tape trying to make it fit inside the dent. I pressed the porter board (whick is like the thickness of 5 sheets of paper) into the dent and traced around the dent and cut it out. Then after the tamplate was was the right size I transfered it over to the grip tape and cut that with and exacto knife and checked the fit, then peal the backing off and press it to the tank so its stuck. I'll go get some pics right now to help explain.

LOL yeah yesturday I took some pics and right after I got the last one that damn camera batterys died LOL Otherwise they would have been up yesturday. But a little updae on mine, is that its not wide enough for me so I have to spread it out a little, but other than that its good except I have o get a little more flexible cause mine aren't spreaders, they are like flying V's HAHA but I'll be working on that.

But anyway heres the pics-

I went out and tried a few yesturday, but I didn't have my regular shoes, gloves, or jacket so everything felt weird. Guess I better not ride in the rain when I plan to ride the next day LOL

that looks good man...I had mine just like that at first but it wasn't wide enough either so I dented it out to the tip of the honda wing and then it was perfect...

I know my paint barely chipped but I just did my friends f4i the other day and it chipped off on all the edges really bad but we just put grip tape on it like you did to cover it up...
