Nice pics Duane! I like the 3rd one down...think it's the best of the 1k shots. Your wife seems to be doing really well too. Is she going to start riding more often now?
Thanks guys.
Darrell - Hopefully the wife will start riding more often. She only had a little over 100 miles on her Shadow before we left and she put more than 300 miles on it in those 2 days.
This trip was an enjoyable family type trip -- but I'm itching to go back already either by myself or with my cousin. Being on some of those roads, the 1K was just screaming to be let loose, but that wasn't what this trip was for.
We had a great time though and my wife really got a kick out of having her picture taken while riding up there. She was smart and just rode her ride and didn't let anyone passing her intimidate her or make her feel like she didn't belong. The overwhelming majority of the riders appreciated the fact that she was a slower rider and we would move over and let them pass. They would toot their horns and wave as we let them go around. As with any large gathering of people there were a few idiots who thought they owned the road. One guy on a Kawasaki in Kaw-green leathers I'd like to meet up with in particular -- but you gotta expect some pea-brains with that many folks in one spot.
All-in-all, it was a very enjoyable trip and we had a blast!
And just a word about the photographers -- it's amazing how they get the right angle and make it look like you are the only person on the road! I couldn't believe it. I remember thinking the pics were going to be crappy because I was in a long line behind some harley's or a cage seemed like every time I went by one of the them.
I guess that's why they are pros! Plus, at first thought, $5 per pic seems like a lot when all they do is just point a camera at you and snap a pic. Believe me, with all the volume each one does it has to be a nightmare to categorize, sort, and upload all those pics!!! They have to view every single pic to know what category to put them in!!! It wore me out just going to each of their sites and scanning the thumbs looking for pics of us - it took me a couple days. Anyway, I just wanted to say if you go there, check out their pics and if you like them, buy a couple. I know some folks grab them off of the sites and don't pay, but these folks deserve to be paid for their work. It's not their fault it looks like their having fun while they work.
In reality, this is what deals gap generally looks like on the weekends unless you get up there pretty early in the morning (which is what I did while the wife slept in)

As you can tell, the guy in front is not leading - he has more folks in front of him that is holding them up.
Don't get me wrong, DG is a blast, but for those that have never been, don't think you're just going to have the road all to yourself either. It was pretty empty very early in the morning, but there was a lot of moisture and fog too. I didn't mind that part though.
