Interesting project.
On the seat generally I like to use a backing board inside the base of the seat. Could be as little as some 1/4" ply cut to the shape of the seat. You can then install some blind nuts in the ply for fastening. It also will allow you to properly upholster the seat , make tight wrinkle free corners and miter/cut and staple the vinyl on the back side so it all can sit flat to the surface.

however i believe i am going to abandon the current look and use stainless steel snaps to hold down the pads like so:

that was my original plan, however most upholsters told me it would take 200~ to do even if i included all the materials.
so i did it myself for 32.00
ill have more pictures tonight on what i plan on doing.
the vinyl used was marine vinyl,
19bucks/sq yrd. 1 yard was enough.
attaching the foam is by far the hardest part of the whole bike so far.
