Default Opinion wanted- racing 954

I would like to get some feedback to help me with my dilemna. I currently race an SV650 (first year) and I also have a 954RR that I am thinking about racing as well. I have a couple of other bikes and just got rid of a 600RR because I enjoy the way my SV rides. However, I wanted something with bigger ba.., uh, more 'ooomph'. I have been searching for a GSXR 750, but just thought about maybe converting the 954 to a track bike.

anybody here track and/or race a 954? I really like the handling of my SV and know that the SV1000 doesn't handle anything like the 650. so, how about some input/opinions on racing/tracking the 954 versus the Gixxer....

im not sure about track-wise, but on the street a gsxr750 wont come close to a 954, The thing i hate the most is that its a 750 and its Soooooooooo heavy. i think a RR would make a hell of alot better track bike just because of the weight and handling.

I dont race but I want to get into it, i was thinking about using a 954 but i figured that the F4i or RR would be alot better for the corners. The 954 ( I felt) was a little to big for it. Im sure other people could race them though, Just not me.

I have been throwing a 600 f4 around the track for the past year.

I did a track day with my 929 and wow what a difference, if you are looking to get out of the corners really well and shoot down the stretch, then go with the 954.

power to weight ratio is a HELLA lot better than the GSXR. Gixxers are tanks, your 954 is just below 400lbs, just like my 929, they have extremely good pull coming out of the corners aslong as you don't slide.

what year gixxer are you talking about? recent 750 handles like a dream...and virtually everyone that i've ridden was pretty sweet...

my old contact at the stealers raced a 954...he loved it...but that's just him...i personally would go with a K5 750 or something...

Last time I was at the track there was a guy on a 954 and he was ripping it just as hard as me.(F4i) He kept up with me in the corners pretty good, but in the straight aways he took me untill we hit the next set of twisties then I would catch right back up.

I'm got the same bikes and have used the 954 '02 on the track for some time. It is redone with Olins, valving, Sato full system pipe and Scott damper. I qualified for AFM racing last season and have spent the winter getting a '03 salvage SV650 ready for the track. I don't have a lot of time on it, but the handling was great and power low.

The 954 is terrific handling bike. Speed is nearly Gixxer level and handling is easy. I'd give it a go.

I'm with Tahoe the gixxer 750 is a very sweet bike, espicially in race trim. The 04 or newer gixxer 750 WILL eat a 954 alive on the track with the same rider... I've seen it first hand (and the Gixxer was the borrowed bike). The chassis is just that much better on the track. On the street it's a different story, the 954 is the better bike.

I hate to say it(because I'm a Honda ho) but I'll have to side with Jason748 and Tahoe SC. The gixxer 750 is going to be a great balance of power and handling. The newer they get the better they get(performance wise).Espcially if your coming off a SV650. Don't get me wrong I've never ridden a SV but I'veheardlots of guys talk about that's their weapon of choice when it comes to hanging it out at the track. But if want more power without sacraficing borderline perfect handling go with the 750. As much as hate to say it, if it wasn't for overstrung engines and quality issue I'd probably own one. With my 6RR of course.

One of my best friends has an 06 gsxr750...Yosh slip on and PCIII - 133rwhp. With race body work and the slip on he was hovering around 410 pounds wet. Is a 954 faster...on paper...will you be faster on the track...by a fuzz. So, my point is you are splitting hairs. Both will do great....I'd do what makes the most sense $$ wise.

gsxr750parts are cheap and plentiful...the aftermarket world chases the GSXR crowd like nothing else.

You can get into a nice race package 750for $4000...I had a number to pick from when I was looking last fall.
