Ducati is going Open class. So, there's only 2 factories competing against each other. I think it was the right decision for Ducati

::taps microphone:: "Is this thing on?"

Now, there's going to be a "Factory 2" class inside of Motogp if the open guys do well enough. It basically punishes them for doing well. It's most definitely a knee-jerk reaction to Ducati going to open class.

MotoGP to create Factory 2 class? | MotoGP News

Motogp is quickly becoming a joke.

And before you can even take a breath they changed the rules yet again! Well, practice starts tomorrow so we'll see what's what in the coming days. Roll on Qatar!

HA! I wouldn't doubt it for a second. You watch, if Aleix gets a few podiums, I bet you'll hear from Tech3 about how unfair the tires/fuel issue is (and I agree).

But seriously though. Everyone last year was begging for Ducati to get competitive. You simply CANNOT do that with the current rules.... Now they finally find a way to do that and everyone is screaming cheater! - even some fans.... Why? Duc hasn't won a race in over 3 yrs. Let them develop extra ideas, let them have more chances to develop more, let them have extra fuel - who cares!? Let them catch up a bit. They still probably won't win. But the occasional podium would be great for racing. They weren't cheating, they were within the rules. And come later in the season, some of the other open teams probably could have gotten a lot of value from them sharing that software once they're all up to speed.

edit - And that's apparently what my 2 yr old daughter thinks about the rules.... (she somehow typed it in my post when I stepped out of the room for a second...

And here I was just getting the hang of CRT, It is a true bummer for them to put duc in such a hard place.

Conrice, I agree with your daughter. Just over 14 hours till the race starts! I can't wait! Although these qualifiers have me farking baffled... I hear Dorna is trying to turn MotoGP into Formula 1 minus two wheels. Looks like they're succeeding.

Actually what they are doing is leveling playing field and its working well that I can see. Dorna right now is making good changes where the non factory teams can compete. If they don't do these changes it will always be the same 4 riders at the front. Confusing this year yes I agree. But next year I have a feeling it will be the factory teams following suit.

I don't see why people are so confused about these rules. They're actually pretty simple and almost every motorcycle racing publication has been laying it out so a 12 year old can understand.

I like that they're trying to enforce a spec ECU as that will promote mechanical tuning as opposed to electronic to get that edge. Regardless of what changes you make, you'll always have the same 4-5 guys at the front unless they make a salary cap because no matter how much you dumb down the bikes, the factory efforts will always be able to afford the big name paychecks as well as the personnel to scout the best talent.

I swear to god I hope they don't turn this **** into some spectacle like Nascar... but considering how easily stupified/confused a lot of the fans are at some simple rule changes and how much they are enjoying this new format, it looks like they're trying to cater towards that demographic.

Still just race one. We'll see how it pans out in a few.

P.S. The spectacle of Qatar were the crashes from that crap track and a dog fight between two FACTORY riders leaving the rest behind.
