Who cares how much it costs to run in a prototype series anyway? I thought the idea at that level was to see who could go fastest and develop technology that can be passed on to market in the future. R&D and speed cost money...

There are plenty of racing series that meet every budget, except mine.

I agree , its just a fancy superbike series now . I used to love reading about the tech development of the GP machines . Now the engineers are hand cuffed . Will anyone design a new engine ever again ?

True, it should be a tech frenzy. But if they're going to try and control the costs, they could at least be intellectually honest about what those costs are...

Not sure why you're not allowed to have more than 4 cylinders, certain limits on piston diameter, etc.

Thats why the 990 days were so cool. You had triples, cross plane crank, screamers, v5s...

Still the coolest bike engine ever made IMHO

I seem to remember an article about a guy in the USA who designed a bike with a V4 engine in line with the chassis . It was a very narrow V , with twin cranks that counter rotated to cancel out the gyroscopic effects. Jeremy McWilliams I think was doing the test riding ?
