What's your biggest fear?
This is possibly one of my biggest fears because I own a Trucking company and one of my previous asshat drivers made a sudden turn in front of a biker causing him to crash into the side of the truck years ago. I think the fear is mainly the asshat drivers in so-cal and i have a problem trusting tires for a guy my size.
My biggest fear is that the front end will fail me. I always check my brake calipers to make sure they are fastened securely to the fork. I check my front axle to make sure that it is torqued within specs. Sometimes I check my fork over to make sure that there is no signs of stress or heavy wear on the head bearings. I have seen the results of catastrophic failure. You have little to no chance to prepair for impact.
This right here is one of the most honest and helpful comments I have ever read. This has got to be the reason for probably close to half of sportbike accidents. That is forum signature quality.
I'd say my biggest fears are deer jumping out while at highway speed. And along with kuro. I slow down sometimes before curves that I haven't ridden before and I usually end up having to speed back up because the angle of the turn isn't as sharp as I expected. Gravel around turns is also pretty scary. I've ran into a few of those before. I just try not to panic and ease the throttle through the curve.
Also i'd have to say other drivers. Pulling out in front you because they think they can speed up enough so you don't have to slam on your brakes. But that's never the case. There are a lot of big hills and steep too around me and there's always an intersection at the bottom. So you can be really moving down a hill and a car will pull out right in front of you. So I'm always extremely carefull when it comes to approaching intersections.
And I'm not a fan of every kid or teen that just got their licence thinking just cause I'm on a bike it must mean I wanna race. No I don't wanna race your car. Stop following me and driving like an A-hole.
That does it for me.

back on topic:
Last summer when i made my peace with god... not sure which:
1. fear of being ripped in two by guard rail, sheer terror.
2. a Sunday driving family careening off the cliff in fire to avoid me, empty sick knot.
And some thinks splitting lane is dangerous....either way...just plain bad luck that scares me. In this case, only a scion with insurance I hope....if a semi truck....now that's scary.
not so much fear as much as dwelling or over thinking. I've found out that I corner better if I just don't worry about it. When i start to worry about something it seems to just set me up for it. I've never experienced a blow out, knock on wood, but if and when I'll worry about it when it happens. First time I started riding I realized how much drivers do NOT pay attention and I think riding made me more aware of motorcyclists as a driver. Being surrounded by air bags and a frame is nice but a bike provides more maneuverability for getting out of sticky situations. The only fear I really have is being stuck at a red light not being able to trip it. That and making someone angry to where they want to run me down.
