Default Winter gear suggestions?

So, I'm a very cold natured person, but I really want to be a year-round rider. I'm wondering if anybody has any suggestions.

I already have a Motorhead jacket that I absolutely love, so I'm looking at the Icon Patrol gear. Anybody have any experience with it or heard good things about it?

I'll typically be riding in VA, but figured if I can get the gear before next weekend, I'll give it a good field test on my way back from IL. :-D

You can layer or go electric.

Layering is obvious, thermals/heavy socks/insulated coveralls, etc.
A full fairing helps, as well. Blocking the wind so you're only dealing
with ambient temps.

Electric gear is more involved, both in time and expense.
However it's easier and quicker to get on the road,
(and no bulky "michelen man" look).

You can also do a hybrid approach.
Start with the heated gloves and layer the rest.

There are lots of resources for the heated gear,
just do a few searches on google, to get started.

Hope this helps, Ern

BALACLAVA, keep the wind off your neck.

also get warm gauntlet gloves, that do not allow the liner to move independent of the shell, having your throttle slip is no fun.

MadHattr059, thanks for the advice, mang! Think I'm going to start off with layering. *Maybe* try the heated gloves, but we only got about 2 more months to get through before I probably wont need them until next winter. :-)

tucsondude,

Thanks, mang. Yeah, I definitely agree with the gauntlet glove idea.

ahh move south is the best option! but if not heated grips with winter gloves are good in 20 degree weather with layers and freeze-out liners with balaclava goes a long way. A nice textile jacket for the winter is the best, usually never layer up if you have a good jacket, but when wearing jeans, layering is a must, usually wear briefs, long johns and thin sweat pants under thick blue jeans.

i have the icon patrol gloves and theyre okay until it gets below 40 degrees. they might be advertised as "water proof", but the wind finds its way in after about 15 minutes on the interstate leading to chilly hands. and im pretty far south, so im sure the temps youll be seeing are much colder than mine.

i layer. hoodie under my summer jacket. icon overlord pants over the jeans. i still need a balaclava though. youll have all the gear you think you need, then you go for a ride and find a hole in your winter armor letting the cold in.
