Default Painting a helmet

Thinking about painting my helmet. Anyone done this? Its a HJC CL-15, not relly an expensive helmet so if i f it up I won't be to upset. What kind of paint, prep? It's metallic now so I am assuming it will need to be lightly sanded? Thanks any input appreciated.

I painted my spare HJC CL14 when I painted my Bike; wanted to match my bike.It is fairly easy, just take it apart, sand it seal it and spay it. I went with a base coat clear coat pearl white for my other bike. Johnny

I seem to remember somewhere that painting a helmet after manufacture can actually weaken the impact envelope.

Could be wrong.

I suppose that would probably depend on how much you acually sand it. I Know one thing, the factory clearcoat is very thin and if anything painting it would acually strenthen it. Johnny
