Need Gear. Just got Started
All the fear mongers who are fans of the CEC testing standard should be pleased with Snell M2010, since they're now compatible standards. DOT and Snell are more protective in most cases, though.
My budget is quite open its my body im taking care of not the bike so i think a couple of extra bucks is worth it. I like the fit of sparx helmets and looking for that to be it. The ari helmit didnt fit confortably at all. I had in mind getting boots.

quoting one of my previous posts:
"
from personal experience
1 helmet, most important asset
2 gloves, first thing to hit the ground, i use $30-40
3 boots, good for low speed, as delicate as hands. as cheap as 90
4 jacket, good when you slide, vitals, id rather have arms than legs.
5 knees and ***. ie pants, shattering/grinding your kneecap off is no fun. I need to buy me some.
boots > jacket for protection, sure converse chuck taylors will protect your feet from road rash, from grabbing too much front brake in the city. but when your bike lands on your foot, and its visually bruised for a week, and sensitive for a month... another story involves bare ankle vs hot crankcase, could see bone, hence went from vans to chucks'.
... or when turning in an intersection, or out of a parking lot and your rear slides out hitting your foot-peg on the asphalt, your foot goes out to catch you in bicycle/dirt bike fashion, resulting in a bruised heel, sprained ankle, if not a ran over foot.
"
PS i commute in helmet, gloves, boots, jacket, slacks. I carry my dress shoes in my tank bag or leave them at work.

I bought the Sparx S07 helmet (same model, Hornet graphic) and it's okay. I needed a second helmet for when I take a passenger and ended up buying the Speed & Strength SS1000 and like it better than the Sparx. Both are light and the Sparx has a tinted and clear visor. However, the SS1000 is a much more aerodynamic design and has better airflow. If you have not yet purchased the Sparx, you may want to take a look at the SS helmets.
No i have not yet gotten the helmetand i will check out the SS. andthanks for the tip. out of most of the helmets ive tried out the sparx was the best fit i didnt notice much of a diff in the weight but im still open for new ideas so keep them comming
When i bought my first lid, I went for price and looks. Big mistake. Thought everything was good till I got my Joe Rocket RKT-101CF. Guys at the store were like "Dude, good thing you never went down". Fit was all wrong
Fit is the biggie. I picked up the rkt on 50% clearance last year. My only complaint is it can get loud with the vents open at high speed

Indeed it is! My helmet cost me _waaayy_ more than I wanted to pay, and way more than I did pay the first time. However, it's the ONLY helmet I've ever had on that doesn't give me a headache, even after an hour or more of riding. Some helmets give me an instant headache. Others only push on me hard enough to make my head hurt after I've had them on for 20 minutes. My current one is the only one that never hurts me at all.
And it is still the most relevant study. Literally nothing has changed in helmet technology since then. Snell has finally been updated and looks to be good. However, DOT is still a good and very safe standard.
Buy what fits and what is comfortable.
