Thanks

What do you mean? If you buy a crappy no name one for $40, don't expect it to keep you melon intact.

I got my Shoei off ebay for about half what they sell for in town. It was brand new in box. Just don't buy a used one.

Sorry man. I wouldn't touch that thing. Eat the return shipping and get some of your money back.

You really get what you pay for. The high end helmets (arai, shoei, suomy, bell) invest a ton of money in R&D and materials, and built a reputation for making high quality gear. Even some of the 'cheaper' brands like HJC, Scorpion, Icon have really top notch stuff.

You want to get at MINIMUM a true DOT approved helmet, preferably Snell rated.

I know that thing you bought say DOT, but its Chinese... nuff said.

The old adage goes "Buy a $37 dollar helmet if you have a $37 dollar head"

Here is what I would get if I were you. They got the color you want and the size. Snell approved:

You bag the 37 dollar helmet and then leave yourself wide open to the Shoei and Arai guys to tell you "Buy a $100 dollar helmet if you have a $100 dollar head"

I paid $240 for my first helmet. It came with the Australian Standards sticker ... and a label inside that says "Made in China".

I have a Shoei. And the Scorpion EXO series are a good helmet. The only reason the price is lower is its a) not an established helmet manufacturer - can't demand the high end priced and b) the model is 4 years old

Helmet fit is probably the number one consideration - over weight, ventilation, etc.

You want a helmet that fits your particular head shape, whether it's round, oblong, etc. Unless you've already worn a particular brand of helmet and know that it fits you, you are rolling the dice when you buy online.

That said, I recently picked up a Vemar Eclipse helmet, which usually goes for $400 to $500, for $149 shipped, so there are deals out there.

The Scorpion helmets are a great helmet for the price. Find out your size then order online. Look around for good deals on them. MS, stg, BB, and others have them.

MAKE SURE IT FITS PROPERLY. It should be snug, but not too tight. Many riders use helmets that are too big. A helmet that is too big is almost as bad as no helmet at all. And know that not all helmets fit the same, with all the different head shapes out there.

Use the cheapo one for the occasional passenger on flip it over and make a cool flower pot. Get one of those hanger thingies...
