Default Bike Security

Ok, I looked all over the forum for this subject and I didnt find much. I am in the market for some theft prevention/protection especially because I live in San Diego. I would like to find out what everyone uses/prefers/wants, and get any feedback that anyone can provide.
I know, Im new here so maybe I shouldn't be polling all of the members but I felt like it was a serious and legit subject that everyone could benefit from. Thanks to anyone that participates.

I have the XENA disc lock with built in alarm and it works good...one to alert me if anyone is messing with it and the other is to alert myself so I do not ride away with it still attached!!! Been there, Done that!!! on my F2 years ago, learned a very expensive lesson on how to brake(rotor) the bank!![:@]

Full coverage insurance is the best bet against having your bike stolen. If they want it bad enough, they will get it no matter what. It's sad, but true. Anything else is just a deterent and may slow a thief down or make the causal thief pass by. For someone who wants your bike, they will find a way. I've seen it happen too many times.

huh, bringin up a dead post but...
around here, people take the front tires off and cut the brake lines... I chain mine to light polls, both front and back, I figure, if they want it, let em drag it away... a 407lb bike being drug wouldn't be a fun thing... my .O2

Some of the best methods are very elementary - once it's locked up (and hopefully affixed to something STATIONARY, like a concrete pillar or another vehicle), cover it - make sure brakelights won't shine when headlights hit them from a distance (cus they kind of act like a beacon - "hey! over here! look at me!") Also, if it's covered with something kind of shapeless (a big thick blanket will suffice), it won't be as easy to identify from a distance.

As mentioned above, if they REALLY want it, they'll get it. But make 'em work for it, and at least try to make it harder to spot from afar, so it doesn't attract attention.
