Default Bell RS-1 or Bell Vortex

Which one? Almost $200 difference.... But is it worth it?

Get what you pay for... Unless it's a prostitute, either way they've been pounded to heck and back. A turd in a shiny wrapper is still a turd.
Edit:After research: Both are SNELL and DOT approved so above statement is still true.

You get what you pay for. The one is more expensive for a reason, whether that be better R&D, newer technology, better material etc. Unless there is a clearance sale.

Bell makes great products and both lids are Snell and DOT approved. Can't go wrong either way IMO. Try them on, get one that fits the best and feels the best to you.

Oh, and a prostitute in a three peice suit is the same as a prostitute in fishnets and a skirt, just different packaging.

If you're thinking about spending around 350 on the bell RS-1 I'd get a Shoei RF-1100 in a solid color.

I absolutely LOVE mine. Two of my riding buddies have RF-1100's as well. Awesome awesome helmet.

If you're going on the budget side I really like the solid AGV K3

And as for the extra money being worth it, I've owned HJC's two Scorpions and the RF-1100 is just all around better. Its much lighter, breaths better and is a good bit quieter. I think the RF-1100 is the best purchase I've made.... other than the actual new bike!

That RS-1 looks similar to the star, which I just bought. The Bell Star is heavier than my previous HJC FS-15 Carbon, but the weight is so balanced it actually feels lighter when I'm wearing it. Lane checks are no longer an issue. Also, it's very aerodynamic. My last helmet tended to lift at over 110-120 or so, but this one stays pretty steady. I dunno if that helps any, but it's my $.02.

One other note, the Bell Star vents so much air it pretty much makes little difference between having the shield down or up, but the trade-off is a lot of wind noise. I've had a Shoei before and I can attest to the fact that they ride pretty quiet, if that's one of your criteria.

My suggestion is to make SURE the helmet you choose fits you well. A less-than-perfect fit will be a decision you regret.

As to the difference in price, I am _not_ one who has experienced truth in the statement that you get what you pay for. What I _have_ experienced is that you _don't_ get what you _don't_ pay for. They're subtly different.
