Default 2012 cbr won’t start

Just picked up a Cbr250r and it wouldn’t start. Replaced the battery and starter as well as the relay module and now it will crank a few times but then stops. The wiring from the battery to relay to starter has also been swapped so no wiring issues. The voltage on the new battery is at 12.5 but when cranking dips below 10 to the point where the headlights die down and continue to fall as I hold the starter approaching 7 the longer I hold it(under 5-10 seconds).

The reason for replacing the starter is that is was drawing a lot of current and would heat up the wires. The battery is an 6Ah 100CCA so it should be fine as it matches the oem spec. Model is a Weize ytx7l bs.

Is the voltage regulator responsible for the falling voltage on startup or would it be a bad battery. I hear compression on the 2nd or 3rd revolution before it stops but the voltage drops too quickly for it to finish cranking over.

Fuel primes as well everytime, just voltage related I believe.

Video of startup. Can’t hear compression in video but can hear it in person. Voltage starts off at 12.5 then dips as the headlights flicker.

got it running with a second jumper but making metallic engine noise now. https://youtube.com/shorts/vFQj_oCmLX8?feature=share

will make a second post for this. Thanks

That sounds like it's struggling to start. Doesn't sound like a new battery to me. The noise in the second video seems like an exhaust leak. I haven't heard many 250's before so no real experience there.

it’s starting up fine now after more charging, will check on the exhaust, maybe something is loose. In another post someone mentioned the cam tensioner might be loose so I ordered that as well in hopes that it’s not rod/piston related.

Summary for searches:

1. NEW batteries do not come charged. You MUST charge them for 24-hrs before using

2. measure battery voltage with everything OFF, should be 13.5-13.8v

3. measure battery voltage when cranking, must not drop below 11v, otherwise ECU won't work

4. measure battery voltage at idle, must be 13.5v or above, otherwise battery won't get recharged
