Well it was time to get abike for the summer and wife said get whatever i want as long as i trade the mustang to get it. well i did just that. Picked up a 1998 honda vtr1000f that has been made into a naked bike kinda. Guy gave me all the plastics and also the stock headlight and mufflers. All I need to do now is get the mounting hardware and some stays to put it back to stock.

 

Glad to hear you are going to return it to stock. I wouldn't consider fightering the thunderchicken. The radiator needs the airflow from the fairing to get air through the fins properly.

These bikes are a hoot to ride. I would look for some aftermarket cans and rejet the carbs. The hawk wheelies really easy too!

I actually like the look of it. It stayed cool the whole hour ride in city and freeway. The pipe on it now gives it a nice rumble. Right now ni do t have the money to get the plastics back on but once I register it I will be everywhere

 

Those V-4's sound so sweet.

Naked is fine but the plastic does come in handy.

 

the vtr's are v-twins (VT/V-Twin)
the vfr's are the v-fours (VF/V-Four)

but regardless that will be a great bike to have.

 

As a fellow Vtwin superbike rider, I can tell you nothing beats the rumble of that Vtwin. The torque is fun as hell to play around with. My TLR is geared WAY to high stock, not sure about how the gearing is on the VTR but sprocket changes really brought my bike to life. I may never go back to an I4 bike again. I fell in love with the Vtwin's.

Check out Gearing Commander: Motorcycle Speed, RPM, Chain & Sprockets Calculator if you wanna play around with your sprockets. It's the cheapest and easiest way to really turn on a Vtwin motor.

The main thing you wanna set your bike up for is to have it running at around 5,000 in 6th gear at 80mph. If you do that your gearing should be great.

Both sound good but I have had my eye on a few Superhawks in the area. I have 3 bikes on the road now but if I can find a Superhawk cheap, I may be have to bring it home. The RVT is to sporty for me and the VTR looks like I could enjoy longer rides.

The VFR's have had a lot of praise form the motorcycle magazines but the VTR gets little notice, if any. The VTR seams like a 2 cylinder version of it. I haven't ridden a Superhawk or RC51 but have ridden the Interceptor.

I do like the twin sound.
