Frank the $50 Farm Bike rebuild thread
Well, along the lines of Matti's brilliant rebuild threads - and to keep me on track with the timeline for completing this bike I present to you Frank the $50 Farm Bike.
And his brother Thomas the $200 spares bike (a CT200 this time)
Now Frank is a Honda CT185 Skipper - a model unique to Australia built for our farming community and should look something like this............
From Wiki:
Honda has built a series of Australia-only CT bikes for agricultural work. As a general description these are variants of Honda dirt bikes, equipped with larger saddles, a fully enclosed chain-guard, and front and rear racks
CT125/CT185/CT200 Farm Bikes
1982 CT185 Also called MD05
Engine 180.2 cc SOHC single-cylinder air-cooled 4-stroke
Power 13.2 hp @ 7,500 rpm
Torque 1.43 kg-m @ 4,500 rpm
Transmission 5-speed
Tyres 3.00-19-4PR, 3.50-18-4PR
Wheelbase 1.295 m Dimensions L: 2.035 m, W: .900 m, H: 1.100 m
Seat height .820 m Weight 106.5 kg (dry)
Fuel capacity 6.2 l
I also have 2 crates of engine and parts - as would be expected
And a camshaft that needs work or replacing - note the damage by the 'key' for locating the hall effect sensor on the left hand side of the shaft
So, a rebuild is required and within a 5 week time-frame as I am back off to France at the end of July.
Why do I 'need' this bike? Well there is a question. I did some volunteer work for the Nature Foundation back at the end of April this year on a 1,000,000 acre property (yes that is 1 million acres plus!!) called Witchelina in the outback of South Australia. See Witchelina Station for more information.
I did surveys (5 plus km transects) for rabbit warrens to mark them on GIS for destruction.
While I was up there the CEO and Environmental Officer suggested we needed to do a survey of a major range of hills that runs for the majority of the 90 km north south length of the property. Uhuh. I didn't need to be asked twice, but would only trust a bike that I have assembled in that arid outback region. Hence Frank the $50 Farm Bike.
He will have a rebuilt motor (bearings, piston, rings, cam-chain) etc, and everything else repainted refurbished, new sprockets, chain, wheel bearings, head stem bearings etc. I have managed to find all the hard to get bits including the fully enclosed chain guard and front carrier rack.
So it begins............
Cheers, SB

Well this should be interesting quite a tight schedule, hope you got enough free time to get it finished in time.
Here's hoping I could find a frame to work on as well, the market is totally dead ATM which I find rather confusing. Better go buy a few mags to look for ads on them... specially with those prices. Wanna look up a 350 CB for me and crate it up here? Probly would end up winning compared to prices here...
And bff on my threads being brilliant... wanna know a secret? About third of the reads are by me, I got a **** poor memory so gotta document everything so I can look it up later...

Ahhh, but your get the job done Matti, and therein lies the reason for posting this. And to allow my virtual mates to poke some **** at me
I'm not going to document every last nut and bolt, but have just been out sanding and painting all the racks and protective bar work on the handle bars. Tomorrow I'll keep dismantling until I have a bare frame and then rebuild from there.
Have to order the piston, cam chain, head bearings and fork seals/gaiters. It will be a mini money pit!
Time will be tight, and I have two car jobs to do before I leave as well.
Cheers, SB
