whoa whoa too much ranting haha.. first off, i been a gamer since i was 5 (i remember mario 2 when i was being babysat) and i dont think im anywhere near fat, lazy and violent. There are people that will take gaming overboard but that can be said with anything in life. If someone is old enough to understand that game time is just a door out of reality for a short-time, then they should have some kind of willpower to know when to put the controller down and get outside. If not, go to a Gaming anonymous Class (yes they do have them, But much much more mainstream in Japan then in the US)

For kids that are playing "violent" games. Parents need to sit down with their kids and tell them about violence (just like the birds and the bee, even tho parents have now chicken out and got the schools to get involved). Just telling your kid not to play a so-called game doesnt mean he/she wont, his/her best friend could have it and then wonder why his/her parents didnt want him/her to see it. If they are getting lazy and "fat" then, there should be a time-limit. It's the parents that need to make and enforce the rules to keep their kids healthy. But I know keeping a kid from something he might be fasinated in is kind-of ill-responsiable, he might become the next COE of Square enix. I just think boundaries should be set in..

about consoles and games, yeah it sucks when you have to buy a $400 system (xbox 360) and they it's mostly for First person Shooters (FPS's) and adventure-type, where PS will be Role-playing games (RPG's) and i guess sports (kind-of think 360 is better with sports).. nintendo is just pure fun for everyone, doesnt really stand out in one catogery. And then each game is about $50-60, it can do a dent in your pocket.. just kind-of means you need to rent first before you buy, people will be wiser with their purchases. And about PC, well i guess you get the best of everything on it - but people that were not introduced to computers at a young age kind-of get lost in how to work around in the computer, they probbly dont know what is recommended for the new game they bought. Then the possible viruses and what-not. Also you have to stay up-to-date on news with new processors, hard-drives, video cards etc etc. And then upgrading now and then (or actually building another computer) So I can see why people will buy consoles just to turn it on and play. (but PC is alot cheaper, especially if you know how to pirate haha)

with the scarface game, siant rows, the godfather, GTA etc etc (all these gangster games) they are just a door-way out of the real world for period of time. Actually these are the best ones out of all the games because they really make me laugh on how creative developers get. But just because I shot a cop or ran over a person in the game and got a good laugh over it, doesnt mean I'm going to get in my car and try it in real life. "what about the kids Jess?" Well like i said, parents should sit down with their kids and tell them what games are for.. they are just to entertainment us.. I guess if your going to blame games for giving kids ideas, Then I guess we should stop TV too.

I think people that do something cruel already had it in their mind.. I can see games influencing someone but people use game violence to get off easy in the court "i'm sorry your honor, it was GTA that kurupted my mind to do that" (and just so you know where i'm comming from, i'm 21 years old with a 19 month old daughter)

Sorry for getting off-topic with tennesse, i was just venting on his rant haha.. (not putting you out there tennesse, i respect your opinion and if anything i said might of sounded offense - I wasn't trying to be)

Now for the 360 - it's a pretty sweet system. It's a tri-core which is so awesome to see graphics pop out like that. Ghost Recon just makes me feel like im so into the game, i mean I actually lean over (in real-life) thinking i can look further pass the rock.. Oblivion gives you an

I The Grand Theft Auto series has cop killing, and prostitute smacking all over it, but the kids want it for Christmas every year...NO WAY! Some of these games are intended for adults (kind of like cigarettes), but get into the hands of kids, especially if the parents don't pay attention.
Well you wont be able to stop kids from getting ahold of cigarettes or alchohol - all you can do sit down and enforce some rules and then tell them why is bad and hope for the best.. And I do remember playing like WWF games on N64 and then going out on the trampolien with my best-friend and we would try to pile-drive eachother (not truely on the head) because my dad sat me down and told me wrestling was kind-of a stage act, and if i wanted to play Wrestling on the tramp, i would have make sure no one gets hurt. And yes, we did sometimes (like hitting the springs on the side, or accidently head-butting eachother). But we had fun and tried to stay safe all at the sametime.. did wrestling games make me want to do it? yea.. But they would of had a different talk with me if it was like a GTA game which i shouldnt be influenced to do.

and if the kid doesnt get the GTA for x-mas his best-friend probbly will (which will probbly be my kid, if i know he/she is old enough) but i would probbly call the parents to tell them their son/daughter wants to play gta or whatever game it is to make sure it's alright.

now games and cigarettes are different (dont even tell me "so would you give your kid cigarettes???") - i know this reply is going to bite me in the @$$ with someone saying something like that..

To stay on topic, wait for the new Nintendo. PS3 will be better than the 360, but will be way too expensive.

But in response to the previous post, I wasn't saying that all kids are susceptible to psychological corruption from video games, but some kids are. You are 21 years old, so when you were a kid video games back then weren't like they are now. I am 25 and remember getting my first Nintendo. I played Mario and Duckhunt, etc.. but not nearly as long as kids do now. I would go outside and climb trees and ride my bicycle and play other active games. But kids now sit in front of the TV for hours playing games. I do agree that parents should be responsible for what types of games kids play and for how long they play them. But who in their right mind would make a game where you get your jollies from killing cops and smackin' hos?

Maybe a kid playing a violent game won't go out and do the same in real life, but it is a fact that viewing something on a regular basis desensitizes you to what you see. An example: The first time you saw a porno you were probably pretty young. It was probably something exciting to you. Now, years later you see **** (after watching some more in between) and don't get as excited now as you were the first time you saw it. The same thing occurs in people seeing violence whether it's simulated (as in a game) or real.

I used to ride my bicycle down to the local pizza joint so I could dump quarters into missle command, asteroids, and battlezone. I am 33 years old still remember us paying $125 for an Atari 2600. The games have come a long way since then, but I think we are all saying the same thing in the last several posts: namely, there is a bit of responsibility to be used when letting your kids play the game, whether that is time management, an explanation of gaming vs. reality, or simply a little "sheltering". Vermino, I agree with everything you say. I was just suggesting with the cigarette comparison, that there are things meant for adults that fall into the hands of kids, even if we are responsible, but there are those parents who don't care. I remember that I always thought my parents were so unfair for some of the rules they imposed, but when I reflect now, I am nothing but greatful. You have the right idea, we should communicate better with our kids. They are much smarter and advanced than we, in general, give them credit for. Back to the topic, I don't even know what the Nintendo next gen is even supposed to look like...I am going to have to "google" unless someone wants to post a link (hint, hint).

yeah i remember duck hunt with the dog haha.. and when i was 16 and 17 i played MMORPG's for at least 18 hours in a day (which was stupid isane.. i learned myself i didnt want to live like that) but in Vegas, there is nothing to do intill you hit 21 or unless you know where all the parties are at..

ok now im going to flip this on you.. but not going to use porno - well you probbly see the screenshot section of these forums and look at all the stupid sh*t people do, wheelies, accidents, bikes totalled - crap, here i'll show you one of mine.. ok now you might clinch from some of the things you see on the web (blood and gore), but if your driving down the road and see a guy get side-swipped by a car and knocked off his harley and was bleeding - you gasp and hopefully* stop your vehicle and help him out. (i say hopefully because in vegas, i witnessed accidents while going to a job and i would stay there when people wouldnt give a damn if he was dead, they would just want to slow down to see the result just because "they might be late for work"). But you and I know we seeing something on TV and real-life are two different things, or NFL stadiums wouldnt exist and PPV boxing would be held in a basement..

I understand what you are saying, but it's a double-edged sword, it's how the person looks at it.. some people can become immune to violence and think nothing of it, but there is also alot of people that can see reality from TV.

I know if i saw someone get shot on the web, while seeing it in real life would be completely two different things (actually i think i would be tromatized *SP?*).

But i do think it's funny to see an animated charcter on a screen dressed up as a cop getting shot or a pimp smacking a ho, but in real life I have full respect for cops and what they put themselfs thru everyday - actually made a couple cop friends from my our tastes in cars when they pull me over haha, and I sure as heck wouldn't lay a hand on a girl nor let someone be abused like that.

but it's just a game, that's it.. it's funny because it's fiction and also a developer probably spent like hours on in trying to script it.

I'll give one more example - everyone likes jokes, some might be racist or what-not.. lets go for handicap or how about fat jokes - even better.. i can get my laugh off a fat joke, but i know it's just a joke. but also have an obesed sister and i love her to dead, but just because i heard a fat joke and laughed doesnt mean i get my kicks from seeing fat people.

I hope i kind-of explain my point of view, i know we both have different views and will never change eachother's but i do respects your tennessee and understand what you are saying.. I think in the end we both agree it's depends on the person

that remote is supposed to have some kind of gyroscopic technology that will mimic yor movements in the game. such as a samarai game.

That Wii looks a lot like something I will never buy. While I was checking out the official websight (thanks Leveltwo), I came upon a picture that made me laugh.
