X-box 360
I'd probably have to bludgeon my own children to death to get any time on the box. Little turds...always hogging up the electronic pastimes in my house! We were watching some kids play the NCAA football, and it was unreal. Of course, it was on an Hi-Def flatscreen tv. We haven't gotten there, yet, but I'm sure it would still be awe inspiring.
I don't know if the PS3 is going to be as popular as the 360 was simply because it's almost twice as much. . I think Sony may be setting the price above equilibrium... that means there could be a surplus. There's never been a console that started this high before, so it'll be interesting to see how it does.
Oh and another thing, it may be the cheapest blueray player on the market as of yet, but it still DOESN'T come with HDMI cables, which will set you back at least another $100... that really pisses me off btw so I won't be buying one until it is included in the box. If it never comes in the box, then I won't be buying it!
I really foresee this console as being a huge dissapointment any way, so if I were you I'd camp outside the toy store every day for a month and buy all the TMX Elmo's there are in the city. That's going to be huge this year!

Halo 3 comes out in November of '07, that's when I'll buy mine.

Video games are making our children fat, lazy, and violent. Go ride your bike instead. But if you have to have them, wait for the new Nintendo. The thing I hate about video games is that you have to buy every console to enjoy all the games... Like I love all the Mario games from Nintendo, X-box has the best adventure-type games, and Playstation has the best sports games. I couldn't choose just one console I would want, so I don't have any. The only video game I play is called Starcraft, and it's for PC. It's the greatest battle strategy game ever. I've been playing it almost every day since it came out in '99. Plus you can play it online too.
I think it's funny that Microsoft charges people to play online when it should be free. On PC games, the software publishers are the ones thta pay for the bandwidth for customers to play their games online. Of course they are relying on you having fun with their game so that when they release a new version or title you will go out and buy it like a good loyal customer.
One more rant: WTF are game developers thinking these days? I saw a commercial for the new Scarface game the other day and it pissed me off. Now, I am 25 years old and I love the movie scarface. I am not naive enough to think that nobody under 18 has seen the movie, and I am not naive enough to think that nobody under 18 will play the game. But making a video game about drug dealing and cop killing??!!?? I believe that this is seriously something that can damage an immature person's perception of reality and turn them into a dangerous idiot. Recently in my city there was a guy that took a police officer's OWN gun from her, shot her 7 times and klled her. At the trial he only got manslaughter 2 and 25 yrs MAX with the crazy defense. Call me a right-winger if you will, but what is this world coming to?? Sorry for the vent, but it's my $0.02.

you have to take several things into account when assessing manufacturers and what they charge for. for example, companies like microsoft ALWAYS lose money on selling consoles. microsoft loses about $100 per 360 they sell. they do this to avoid having prices like $600(ps3). in turn they will make the money back selling you a $60 game, as well as $40 controllers and other various accessories. even with halo 2 they add map packages and charge up to $12.99 to download them. atleast MS has a complete online package(XBOX LIVE), whereas with ps2 some games are free, and some are not. that sucks.
starcraft is a great game. although not all gaming on PCs is provided for by companies. take Battlefield 2 for example. You dont have to pay to connect or to play, but thats because avid gamers are providing the physical servers by either renting or actually hosting their own. they are typically run by various clans.

I bought my son "World of Warcraft" for $50.00, then found out it was $15/month to play, then found out there was a $40.00 sign up fee, so I felt like I didn't get any lube on that deal. I agree with some of what Tennessee has to say. The Grand Theft Auto series has cop killing, and prostitute smacking all over it, but the kids want it for Christmas every year...NO WAY! Some of these games are intended for adults (kind of like cigarettes), but get into the hands of kids, especially if the parents don't pay attention. I understand that the target market is 30 year old males (that is an average), even though people of ALL ages are playing...except your grandma.
