Everyone need a break now and then, take a couple months and enjoy the things you worked for the last few years.

Thats the exact thing I'm worried about. As playfulgod says " life is about more than money ". I follow that rule more than a lot of people. I'm always content with what I have.

and TK sounds like he has experienced what I'm talking about. I literally mean 24/7 when I say wake up early and come home late. It does get old and you really do start to kick your self in the head wondering what you're working these hours for when you're 21 years old at the young prime time of life to have good fun and make memories.

the pros and cons could go back and forth all day I'm sure but as everyone knows it comes down to the person with the decision.

I always kind of think about things like this as, " everyone knows those people who went overboard with work and money and by the time they're 45 they're living on ocean front property in a castle, but they are ALWAYS gone, doing paper work, making phone calls, meeting people etc. I look at life more like playfulgods statement. I love making money and having cool ****, but when you do eventually get old (which happens overnight ) and all you remember doing is making tons of money and buying everything you want instead of having good times with friends, a lot of people I'm sure would like to go back a few years.

Money makes the world turn, end of story. but you only live 1 time! your money is just going to continue recycling itself long after you're gone.

the statement I clearly remember and helps me keep within my spending limits and need for useless things is.
"You cant take anything with you"

That is no guarantee though. Especially with how quickly things in the economy can change.

Overtime in my office has to have manager approval. When the budget gets tight, it has to have regional approval. And when they're offering OT, the sups tell everyone "Grab it while you can cause no telling how long it'll last. Or be offered again". I made a killing during the World Series and Superbowl. Haven't seen approved OT since then.

Super600, you're not talking about a lifetime career choice of 13 hrs / 7 days a week. It's a summer. Money making opportunities may just be once in a lifetime with the way the economy is acting. You may have the opportunity to make a bunch of cash this summer... Then your boss tell you next year he can't keep you on.

Partying is something that can be done any time. Usually the parties get better the older you get. Because a couple of years (22 - 24) of some hard work contracting, I was able to take 3 years off. Jet skiing at the lake, drinking in the Colorado (RojerLockless might know what that cost ) and road trips whenever I wanted (god I wish I had been on 2 wheels then). Much better than a kegger at the beach

I am 18, live at home and go to school for free(my mom is a professor at my college). I don't need a job for gas money to get to school(I could always make my schedule the same as my mom's or sister who also goes there) I work 25 hours a week for the recreation department and I make a pretty good wage doing it. I don't think I make bank but I do believe I am making the most money WHILE going to school(6 days a week) out of everyone I graduated with.

Here's why I say that. Last summer I worked for the recreation departments summer camp and I hated it. It was terrible and I vowed to take the next summer off. As I had $500 saved for summer expenses I thought to myself "wasn't I able to have fun last year even though the job was bad?" and I truly did. Sure I didn't get to have late nights out but when I thought about it I can't have late nights now either. I have work 6:45 am Mon.-Fri. and class at 8:30 am on Sat.

When I thought about it long and hard last summer I was able to afford to register, insure my Firebird as well as fix it. That to me was worth the whole summer of work. I really look forward to it now because I can put the money to good use. I can pay off my bike and maybe even pay back some other things I owe my family for which Is stopping me from moving out of my mom's house and into a house with all my buddies.

So if you live at home I would say work. If you have your own place I would say work! Do you want that mortgage for ever? I would be paying as much off now! If I rented I would be saving to buy.

I don't know. I worked all through college, never took a summer off, never went abroad...and I'm still in debt (almost out, but still) as a grownup and I've never traveled. Some of these things you have to seize while you're young. I wouldn't go either/or on this- split the difference and don't miss out on everything, while working enough to get ahead.

Enjoy your Summer, got out and act like a jackass.

Privileges of Youth.

Right now you have a "Man Card" with "Youth Privileges". Enjoy them before they get taken away. Things that cause you to lose privileges :

Career - Not just a job, you can always find one of those, but what you end doing for the rest of your life.

Debt - Then you have to have a job.

Marriage - This takes away many privileges.

Kids - Say goodbye to almost all of them.

Couple of rules you need to follow:

1. Don't hurt yourself or anyone else - At least not permanently. Bumps bruises, scrapes and broken bones will heal. Loss of limbs should be avoided and paralyzation should be avoided at all costs.

2. Don't get arrested - At least not for anything major. A night in jail can make for some good stories, just try not to spend any more time than that. No felonies!!

3. Don't drink/do drugs and drive - This can cause you to break rules one and two as well as lose your driving privileges. Don't do it.

4. Don't drink or do too much drugs - Get your partying in, but do too much and you'll end up wasting much of your precious time and money.

5. Don't get anyone pregnant - If you have a child, you must immediately transfer all youth privileges to your child. Now you need a job to provide for your family.

Have fun!!!

I certainly have.

You only have so many summers in your 20's. Live them while you can before you have a true full time job and actual responsibilities - house, family, kids, etc.... I can guarantee you when you have those things summers at the lake will not even be an option.
