What Handguns Do You Suggest
i have a ruger p345 for defence and i like it alot, shoots great, doesnt jam, comfortable (for me atleast everyone is a little different). Id say be careful with modding it too much though u dont wanna compromise how reliable it is with a ton of custom parts especially if ur trying to do it on a budget or something
heres a youtube video i did on it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_doykdwwcrw

Kuro, on the judge thing... check out this site.
Any opinions of Charles Daly? Guy with the 600rr picked up a CD .45 for $400 used today. We're planning on hitting the range on Monday. I looked it over at the office (shhh.... we're not supposed to be armed
).
First, I've never heard of Charles Daly guns.
Second, to me this used gun was in dire need of cleaning and oiling. So I dunno how far I'd trust it.
Third, this .45 felt really light. I checked when I got home and my .380 felt heavier empty than his .45 empty
Fourth, not too sure how close I wanna stand when we get to the range. It's his first gun

I've had 2 charles daly guns, both shotguns. You can get them at Wally World, and they're headquarters is in PA somewhere. The auto was really picky about loads, but once I got that sorted it was a good gun. (but I sold it. It just didn't fit me quite right)
I've never shot a CD .45, but I've held a couple of their 1911s. They're supposed to be decent guns. They're made by Armscor in the phillipines. I don't think Charles Daly technically makes them any more, but Armscor will back them up. They're right on par with the RIA's (also Armscor) and a couple other bigger names that I can't remember.... lol.
The Citadel brand is also an Armscor.... looks just like the CD. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one for the right price.

It just felt kinda weird. His CD is larger than my Taurus (not as concealable) yet felt so light... and plasticly. Not a gun I'd choose.
And like I said, it's his first gun. He's never fired a gun before. The range will be... interesting
He's pretty stocky tho. so I don't expect to see a .45 flying back over his head

That's odd that it's light. If it's a 1911 style, I don't see how it could be. They make a polymer framed compact model, but even that one is like 8oz heavier than the Taurus 380.
It could just be the size that's kinda deceiving.
On the "first gun" thing... just watch him really close, remind him of the rules, and never hand him a loaded gun. (not that you should ever hand a loaded gun to anyone....)
I've seen a few idiots, and it only takes one time.
I saw a noob blow the toe off his shoe with a .357mag.
Also had a guy pull the trigger on my M&P as soon as I handed it to him. He would have put a hole in my friend, but I had unloaded it and checked the chamber. I do it every time, no exceptions. I've had people make comments about me doing it, but **** 'em.
When I first started shooting, I was hesitant to speak up when it came to little safety infractions. Now I don't care who you are. If you're doing something wrong, I'm gonna say so. People can get pissy with me, doesn't bother me one bit.
Screw a squid.

thats a fact bro...i never hand over a loaded gun for a buddy to look at , and if they have an issue they dont need to hold my guns. i concider myself very safe with firearms and ive still had some WTF moments. i had my savage 7mm rem-mag go off for no other reason i can think of is a small bump on the triggerguard, freaked my chit out, round hit the dirt. peece..
I don't have any hand guns because the laws here are kinda weird. However, I have a couple of rifles and some shotguns. I'm a bit concerned about the whole 'home security' thing here. I'd say that selecting a suitable firearm for this purpose would depend on a few factors.
What is your house made of? If it's double brick and you're sure you know where the windows are, even in the dark, then sure, the bigger the better...maybe?
How far away could the nearest innocent person be and could any of your shots go stray? Different ammo will either fragment or penetrate, or anything in between, so choose the right bullets for what you're doing and where you are.
Who are you thinking that you might have to 'defend' against? If you're living in a war zone or the suburbs then, surely, your needs would be completely different.
Don't get me wrong here. I'm a keen shooter but, like a few other things
, it's not what you've got, it's what you can do with it! Yesterday the young bloke and I were shooting a couple of 12G shotties off the front veranda at a hardwood tree stump about 30 metres away. Even using 7 1/2 shot (for clays) a person would have been pretty f#cked up! When we broke out the solids and AAA shot the results were significant.
I've had to kill a few sick or injured cattle over the years and always use a .22 rimfire rifle. At 20 metres they drop like a stone.
My old man had a Browning .22 semi-auto pistol when I was growing up. He was confident that he could put 11 rounds into an intruder befor they crossed the room. He was ex army and I don't doubt this. It used the same .22LR rounds as my afore mentioned rifle.
All I'm saying here is that if you're into guns, just for the sake of shooting, then go to a range to shoot the big stuff. For home security the choice needs to be made after a fair bit of thought.
By the way, my home security is four dogs...I doubt very much if I'd even need to get out of bed!
Happy shooting guys
.
Dylan; I pull out the bolt before I give anybody one of my rifles and break a shotgun...I don't give a toss if they're insulted because I'm still alive!
bambam; Nice looking hound there mate. I'm picking that 'home security' isn't really an issue for you either.
