thanks guys.
It cost me an extra $12 a month for the HD package... I have Dishnetwork btw and is well worth it. I heard Comcast compresses the **** out of some of their HD channels consequently looking like crap.
mines 5 bucks for the FULL directv package all movie channels, HD, etc...
Just find a buddy or someone with that package, give them 5 bucks a month for an extra reciever and buy yourself a dish on ebay or something then viola, you have almost free tv.

Time Warner has free HD. For all of the normal channels I have, NBC, CBS, Fox, Discovery, History, and some others, I have HD channels of them too. This also applies for my HBO, Showtime, Starz, and Cinemax. I have about 50 HD channels total.
I got the HD set up after I had normal Direct Tv and the reciver (with dvr) cost me like two or three hundred dollars, but the monthly rate wasn't very much. Then three weeks later, they went down to like $99.00.
I have DirecTV also, $9.99 a month - basic HD package on top of whatever plan you get from them. But you also have to "rent" the HD box from them at a monthly fee, so it's more than that. Sometimes they run specials though, were you get a free HD box with activation.
Ask them what is involved in cancelling the service. Tell them that in the future you are looking to upgrade to HD but the satellite brochure reflects that you will get more channels for a lesser price (which is true).
