i get harrased by my friends sometimes about wearing a helmet. They will wear one if we go for long rides, but around town and stuff, they wont wear one... I figure, you could crash at any second, why not be protected EVERY second ya know?!
Everything I read says that most accidents happen at low speeds close to home. That's why I ride far away and fast LOL!

Don'y worry about your buddy's Once they loose half a face to road rash and you don't they will look at helmets in a differant light-you will then be the cool guy LOL!

It's about style. Quality gear costs good money, just like quality clothes. Unfashionable people that never get laid seem to think that it is gay to actually spend money on clothes or gear. Whether on a bike or on the street, it's the same ****. Some loser trying to justify why his sorry, cheap outfit is better than expensive designer gear. The problem with that approach is that hot chics (not harley chics) appreciate a sweet gear setup as much as they appreciate a sweet outfit at the club. Good looking peoplesleep withother good looking people and can recognize someone that takes pride in their appearance and someone that doesn't. Don't take it to heart just because they are talking about your bike. They would call you gay for wearing a Hugo Boss suit but we know better than to listen to that nonsense.
Well, I'm not one for the quick lay. It just too empty for me. Besides, if someone doesn't want me because of the clothes I wear, than that person is not for me. That is the type of person that will never be happy, no matter what I do, wear or own. Now, if the person sees me as a clean slate to style...more like art, that is a different story. I will not change myself to attract someone who is not for me.

In the old days, life was kind of simple. Where boys would fawn over the most attractive woman in their village or neighborhood. But then what happens? Bimbo Baywatch and glamour magazines. Now all of sudden, the attractive woman in the village seems plain and it appears there are always better options out there. Grass is greener syndrome. Their self esteem is lower. They can never be happy with who they are. Society is destroying the viewpoint of themselves instead of lauding who they are and that who they are is perfection in itself. The rate of anti-depressant use in this country is a good sign of that (note the drawing of a corollary between two unrelated items to back up my argument)

I actually like the message in the Dove commercials:
Evolution: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYhCn0jf46U
True Colors: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUsKIApTewQ

Damn it...I annoy myself with these rants. MUST STOP. Especially since it really is an utter waste of time and I'm just using it to keep myself from having to work.
You speak the truth Woo..I like your rants...lol...I don't do quick lays either, just not me...we have to stop society's decay from eroding our own sense of values...we have to do something...

I'm not at all sure what sexual orientation has to do with helmet use.

Everyone wears a helmet around here - it's the law in NY and NJ. The Harley guys who wear the bare-*** chaps also wear little beanie helmets, but just because they look like they just wandered out of a leather bar doesn't necessarily mean anything.

From the TV Series, Angel:

Wesley: Come on. What are you waiting for?
Angel: I... really don't think it's gonna fit.
Wesley: Of course it will. Put it on.
Angel: You know, I-I don't need a helmet for protection.
Wesley: Angel. It's the law in California. You want us to get pulled over?
Angel: No.
Wesley: Then what's the problem?
Angel: Well, it-it's just, you know - the whole - visibility issue, not to mention the whole hat-head thing and if you really think about it, how come I have to wear the ladies helmet?
Wesley: Stop being such a w**nker and put it on! (Angel puts on the pink helmet) Good. Hop on board, gorgeous.
Angel: You'll pay for this.

I measured my arms after the gym yesterday...17 1/4 inches. If anyone calls me a homo they never say it to my face.

sounds like you're catching up to myself at the gym. Call me IF you got a 54 inch chest and a 34 inch waist. I'll swing by and we will hit goldsgym, you can be my guest

OK let's stick to the original topic of this thread, since it's already been jacked in more ways than one
On the subject of wearing gear which includes the use of helmets. IT Has Been Beat to Death around Here. While it is a Personal Choice. I would say 100% of those of us who have had a bad accident or two, and in some cases myself three, not counting track days or running WERA one season will tell you that wearing full gear is the smartest, Thing You Can Do if anyone doubt the ability of a helmet to save your life. I've got a fewPICS for those individuals to look at and in this crash. I'm just grateful that both of us were wearing full gear. I can only imagine what my ugly mug would've looked like if I hadn't been. On page 2 of this thread you'll find pictures of our gear

You're taking what I said wrong, Woo. I'm just pointing out that style in gear is similar to style in general. Some people just don't care what they look like. A nice looking guy will get harassed in a blue-collar bar, similar to how a nice looking rider will get harassed by those less educated or fortunate. I'm not saying that anyone needs to try and get laid with what gear they have on, but rather that there are distinctly different attitudes on style both on a bike and off. Without getting into the safety argument at all, a helmet can function as a piece of style. I'm just offering another viewpoint to wearing gear. I like the look of a well put together set of gear, from shoes on up. I like to think that other people who's opinion I actually care about feel the same, which is why I could care less when someone questions my helmet. I simply tell them that I wouldn't wear a suit without my tie, now would I.

I admit I do not wear one all the time, but I do feel more at ease when I do. Several years ago I was in a helmet law state and needed to make a quick 10 block trip. I threw my helmet on but did not buckle it. My 10 block trip turned into a 5 block trip when an idiot ran a red light and broadsided me. The initial impact knocked me out from under my helmet so when I bounced of his windshield I no longer had the helmet on. The concussion was in my vision center so lost eyesight for a spell. Oh what a difference of having the thing buckled would have made. I probably would have never ridden again but I had to leave the hospital on a bike so I went through that get back on the horse thing soon after the wreck. I was out of town so that was my only mode of transportation. I ended up riding the wrecked and totaled bike another 800 miles to get home. That was a sight.

Long way to say, wearing and buckling that helmet is on the top 10 list of things I would have done different in my life.
