The distributive property comes into play when an expression involves both addition and multiplication. A longer name for it is, "the distributive property of multiplication over addition." It tells us that if a term is multiplied by terms in parenthesis, we need to "distribute" the multiplication over all the terms inside.

2(5 + y) = 10 + 2y
Even though order of operations says that you must add the terms inside the parenthesis first, the distributive property allows you to simplify the expression by multiplying every term inside the parenthesis by the multiplier. This simplifies the expression.
I don't think her was asleep. I think he is just able to wrap his mind around the idea that you can't use it if it doesn't work. I'll be watching the Redwings while you try to figure that out...

your still missing the fact that you cant just distribute the 2, its 48/2 that must be distributed to the (9+3) thus giving us 288... again because the / is to the left of the 2*(9+3)...

log(48÷2(9+3))=logx
log(48)-log(2)+log(12)=log(x)
This clearly shows the relationship between the different parts of the equation.
log(48/2)=log(x/12)
48/2=x/12
288=x
Can't believe I had to do such a simple problem using logs.
