That is what it is, It is very straight forward when written this way.

ok so what about when its written this way so that the multiplication and division is done from left to right the way its supposed to be....

Written that way the answer is 288.
But thats not the way the original question is written.
That is the same as (48/2)(9+3)
You do left to right on the original question just you have to do left to right on the top of the equation and left to right on the bottom before you an do the division.

google over rules all and it says 288 which is what i thought it was

So I am not dumb after all? I thought it was 288 at first, but as I thought more, I thought it was 2.

the issue is grammatical:



if it were written:

48 ÷ 2 * (9+3)

then, it would be 288.



but as written it essential evaluates this way:

x = (9+3)

48 ÷ 2x

which is 2.




just because 2(x) and 2 * (x) use the same math operation internally, doesn't mean they are treated the same way in an equation.

regen wins, i didnt take those gosh darn math classes to not be able to do simple equations.... its tricky tho i will admit
