Are both running XP? If so here is a little tutorial that will help. It shows setup with zone alarm which you probably don't run so just kind of skip that stuff. I have seen where computers don't like to see each other except via IP address instead of computername. To find your ip address on the desktop just click -> start -> run -> type cmd and hit enter -> black screen apears and type ipconfig and hit enter. There is your ip address. Even though your router probably had DHCP enabled you will probably get the same address when you start your computer if yours is the only hardwired computer on the router.
