A tip regarding fix-a-flat...
Don't forget and leave it in a bag on the bike in the heat (I'm in the Arizona desert). See, what happens is, the pressurized can overheats and blows up. Really explodes. Completely shreds the tank or tail bag it's in, destroys the bike cover, gets yellow-green slime EVERYWHERE which is super-difficult to get off things like the seat once the sun (remember how the explosion destroys the bike cover?) bakes it on, and sends can shrapnel in whatever direction is convenient. Seriously, don't do this.
BTW, anyone have any suggestions for getting yellow-green slime off the seat?

Yeah, it's funny, 'cause it was the Honda shop that sold it to me, and said many of their touring customers swear by it. They (and every other bike shop around) say they won't touch a tire with a plug in it.
This clarifies, though, that it's probably equally imprudent to keep the CO2 cartridges (for inflating after installing a plug, for example) on the bike, so I'm not quite certain what realistic options that leaves someone in this area. Perhaps just don't get flat tires?
