I'm sure that's part of it, lol, but I stand by my original statement. I frame houses for a living and I've seen too many yankees come down here, show up to work on a 30 degree day with just a light jacket and after an hour start cryin' "No way it's 30 degrees. I'm freezin' my *** off." Its the same reason someone from Phoenix can come here in the summer and say "I can't believe its only 95 degrees. This heat is killin' me."
+1 on the balaclava. Stopping that breeze around the neck and into the helmet is critical.

I don't find it enjoyable to ride when you are cold. Riding should be fun and when it is freezing it isn't fun to me. Therefore, I don't ride when it gets cold.

Leather Gloves are important and a decent jacket with a liner inside it. I have a Fieldsheer jacket with an internal removeable liner.

It is great to see another Georgian on here. I live in Forsyth County near the North Georgia mountains and ride all year round. Some of the advice given on here as to riding in the cold weather works for me. The idea is to keep the wind from hitting your skin. Hit me up for a ride and we can meet up. For me temps are not a reason for not riding.

The only time I dropped my bike was in the dead of Winter...and I'm glad it was... I had on multiple layers and they saved several layers of a$$ on me.

Dress for the weather and you'll be fine.

Studded tires (or tank tracks?), thermosuit, maybe a plow in the front if you live or drive out in the sticks?

Wouldn't recommend it though...

I guess your winters are similar to us her in So,Cal and in Texas. If its at night or in the 40's then wear a thermal shirt and pants then your regular riding pants and Jacket. A baclava or even a simple bandana (what I use) will keep your face warm. If its a sunny day and like sixty= heaven, you only need your jacket.
