not sure about the dual boot thing, but you can create a xp install disc (slipstream) using n-lite (http://www.nliteos.com/) which lets you customize your installation from the beginning. this wont fix your current problem, but it will allow you to revert easily to a default installation for you should it ever happen again.

I think you can dual boot but i cant really tell you how to do so. its all a matter of doing the right thing at the right time. Do some google searches and you can find a wealth of information on the topic that will help you out.

If you want to Dual Boot Windows Xp and Vista, try using this site http://apcmag.com/how_to_dualboot_vi...creenshots.htm I have used this way before and it will work if you already have Xp Installed. If you have Vista installed already there should be a link somewhere on the page. There's a couple programs you have to download and install first, but it is really a simple process.

To fix your current problem, I would do a "Repair Install"
It will keep your stuff intact but will just repair windows system files. All you need is a Windows disk.

It will get windows back to a usable state. From there he can use one of the numerous spyware programs out there.

Windows is already in a "usable" state (he can boot right?)... just full of spyware. So how exactly replacing system files will fix his problem? As soon as he boots up his repaired windows installation, all the spyware apps will go right back to work and his symptoms will be back. It's a waste of time.

First you find out what kinds of spyware are causing all these issues.. then you make decisions on how to fix it.
