Default windows 2000 help

It's just hanging on "applying personal settings."

I tried safe mode, but no go.

Upgrade to vista?

If you can't get into windows then really the next "best but not really the bestest" thing to do is to do a recovery if you have the 2000 CD. I avoid recoverys like the plague. Even if it gets you into windows you most likely to have a bunch of other things start messing up because it overwrites newer files and you'll get errors galore. If it were me I'd just reformat if windows dont load properly. Even if it only loads in Safe mode id still reformat because the time it would take to find the problem I'd be done reinstalling everything.

Get ready to cringe... I've seen XP on a computer half that slow... doesn't mean you should do it.

So the answer is, put the drive in another computer and pull the data you need. Reformat and reinstall. Don't waste your time trying to figure the rest of the crap out.

I would upgrade to XP and not "downgrade" to Vista. If it's an older machine, Vista will drag it down to the depth's of the sea and drown it. Vista requires too much system resources to run properly than XP does.
