this is huge; i mean i wasn't related to the guy or anything, but i've talked with him plenty of times growing up. harry lee, the sheriff of jefferson parish (where i grew up through my high school years, neighboring orleans parish) passed away due to complications from leukemia this morning. it's pretty crappy, he was really the reason that jefferson parish was so safe compared to the little town it borders to the east (cough*here*cough)



if you don't know, he was about THE only politician who came out of katrina with his dignity and popularity intact. he was fat. he was chinese. he didn't take **** from anyone, and he said things exactly like they were. he wasn't afraid do come off as un-politically correct. when the **** went down and the water came up, jpd had things under control.

anyway, point is he was a good guy, and he'll surely be missed. i wonder what the next guy is gonna do to fill these shoes...

 

Sad fact of life is great people die just like the rest of us. Hopefully his accomplishments will live on.
