Ran out of fuel on the freeway...
Whelp, I finally did it. I was having a brisk ride yesterday and all of a sudden my bike sputtered and died on me while I was in the left lane of an interstate highway. I spotted a gas station that was on a hill by the exit I was by so I ran across the 3 lanes to find out the gas station was closed for Sunday. Luckily, my friend's house was close by and he came through, but I had my bike on the left shoulder which was about 2 feet wide so I waited for a break in the 70+ mph traffic to push my bike across at which point a state trooper saw me and proceeded to chew me out for being such a dumbass.
If I had any other choice, I woulda taken it, but there was no room for a car to park behind me on that shoulder and I had no other options for refueling.
I guess I should keep a closer eye on the fuel indicator, but I was just having too much fun to be looking down at my instruments. Luckily NJ residents didn't see me in the headlines and it all ended well, including raping the bmw 335 he was driving (only up to the indicated speed limit of course).

Must have been a crazier move than I thought. I just kinda did it thinking, "Hey, what else am I gonna do?" When I told my buddy who rides this story he kinda shrugged and said the same thing. Life must look really different from inside a cage.
Reserves can last 30+ miles. How can you manage to never look at your gauges in that amount of time? I'm glad you got out of the situation okay (even with pushing your bike across a freeway - NOT a good idea), but dang, that's all on you buddy.
Glad you weren't featured on the news..
I've had to push my bike twice for over an hour!
The first time I had already seen the reserve light but figured I still have enough to get to the only gas station that I knew for sure was still open. It was on the other side of the river and I could see it from where I was but I had to backtrack 0.6 mile or so, go over a bridge and then another 0.5 mile or so to the gas station.
It took me about an hour and a half and I was soaked! The bike itself isn't THAT heavy but I'm tall so the F4 handlebars are quite low when standing next to it, making it's quite hard on the shoulders (especially the left).
The second time I had forgotten to reconnect the reserve sensor after taking the tank off, and although I can tell now when my tank is low on fuel (the bike gets a slightly different sound) I was counting on the reserve light to pop on... It didn't of course.. I stalled at a stoplight and pushed the bike on the sidewalk. I knew for sure that there was a gas station only a few minutes away. For some reason I went straight instead of just taking a right turn.
The gas station would have been 2 hundred meters away but I went straight, couldn't find it, then decided I would do a shortcut through the park (pitch black) but took the wrong path. Long story short, I pushed the bike for another hour and a half in a BIG *** circle even though the gas station would have been 5 minutes away from where I stalled...
I haven't ignored the sound/light since.
I stopped on the right shoulder (freeway) once because I saw a biker pushing his bike. He had just run out of fuel and looked a bit winded "I though I was going to make it". He didn't
. Luckily the gas station was only a hundred meters or so in front of him.

i had a loose connection on a wire but i didn't have the chance to fix it for a week or so, so my fuse for my gauges stopped working. i was going to see a girl and i was like hmm i can either get gas now or later and decided later
made it to see the girl but it ran out right next to a church and i was on a hill and couldn't push it up. but the church gave me a gallon of gas and i made it to the next gas station. I made sure to get that loose connection figured out quick after that hahaha
