Radar detector/jammers
#11
In regard to laser jammers HERE which is via Wiki.
I can't profess to being experienced with jammers but, I've used a couple lower end Cobra radar detectors in my cage. They work pretty well actually, and obviously you can not totally rely upon them but they definitely give you an advantage - especially here where the ghost cars can literally be any sort of vehicle..which is outrageous.
I'm hoping to also put one on my bike as, the speed limit on the freeway is indeed too low. It's just the matter of setting up an auxiliary now.

-familiarity with whatever stretch of road/highway you are on. If frequented enough, you can become familiar with the spots at which that the fuzz likes to hide out and set traps
-familiarity with the PD itself of that area. You will eventually learn what types/makes/models of cruisers they use, including the unmarked ones. If you have a keen eye, an unmarked cruiser is every bit as obvious as a marked one with roof lights.
-familiarity with backroads, side roads, turn-offs, etc. While I am officially not recommending this but if you know your backroads, etc....and you ever decide to run from a cop, knowing where to turn off (where cop doesn't see you turn) will allow you to hide from them. And if you are going to get that serious, I suggest having a headlight/tail light/brake light kill switch installed if you run from them at night.
I've also heard (can't verify) that certain kinds of paint will absorb or scatter radar beams (like the F--117 nighthawk).
And if they are ever able to develop this for vehicles, the LEO laser radar will be moot:

Wow. You're right. I did several searches and none of them could tell you. I simply searched "are laser jammers illegal in NY". Most said they are legal or they are illegal in only a handful of states. I never thought to look on FCC's site. Unbelievable how they are allowed to be sold all over the internet. I mean how many illegal products r sold online. I apologize. I was misinformed.
A good site to answer your legal questions on jammers, detectors and laser jammers (which are not federally illegal) is here : Radar Detector Tests and Reviews by Guys of LIDAR, go to their FAQ page, the first 3 questions have links to maps of the US outlining where items are legal or illegal. Plus lots of other good information.

Please explain to me how police being in "ghost cars" which I assume are unmarked police vehicles is outrageous...if you're going over the speed limit you're accepting the risk that you may get pulled over and ticketed. Cops are doing their jobs, and yes some of them are huge jerks, but there's a lot of other people who are huge jerks. I've met quite a few nice cops, and I've never even been pulled over, I've just met them at my school and by volunteering on my local rescue dept. (which shared a building with the PD).
Just ride safe, and if you speed you know you are breaking the law and can be pulled over for it and punished, it's not like somebody is making you speed. I'm not saying I don't do it myself, because I do, but I know the risk and accept it.

It really depends on what the cops agenda is for the day.

That's because they just bought a dozen donuts.
It really depends. I've been in Mass. for school the last few months. My experience is that if I'm just cruising at say like 75-80 and don't jam my brakes on then they don't come after me. Actually...a lot of the time mass cops just sit there to well...sit there. Because it has the same effect. People slow down for a little while. I got by a fair share of cops who aren't running radar or laser.

That is what I thought. But , if you can't use them what is the point. It's like having a hot girlfriend around, but you can't do the nasty with her. I'm assuming that they can tell if you're trying to block their signal. That is the only way they will know you have one.
Don't apologize, I was just pointing out that New York may have them as legal, but the country as a whole does not. After checking it turns out NY does not have a state law banning them, however the Federal law of course supersedes that, similar to how marijuana is "legal" in certain states.

Cobras work okay, I have an escort detector and it works quite well. A lot of people think theirs don't work because they see a cop pass by, or on the side of the road. Fact is...a lot of cops don't keep their radar on. Also, some cops will turn it on and off as they're driving so that people that turn onto the road in front of them may not see it on their detector until it's too late.

While I only lived in a couple States for four years (FLA, WA) the ghost cars (yes undercover) were very easy to spot down in the US. However in British Columbia they can be very difficult to pick out with no noticeable antennas or emergency lights since it's all integrated. The worst part is they use a wise variety of vehicles, from mini vans with those family stick figures on them, to seemingly rusted out pick up trucks, and the like..just very average non descript vehicles. Leaving us two points to look out for: they typically drive American vehicles and, will not have hub caps..that's about it lol.
Some other things to consider...
-familiarity with whatever stretch of road/highway you are on. If frequented enough, you can become familiar with the spots at which that the fuzz likes to hide out and set traps

From what I know the whole deflecting radar or laser detectors is a myth, I believe they even tried such on Mythbusters to no avail.
