I don't know about detectors on bikes, but mine has been invaluable in my car.

FWIW, the Valentine One is NOT all it's cracked up to be. You can figure out where they're at by watching the signal strength pattern (don't need arrows), and the V1 gives marginally better detection at the risk of a lot more false alerts. The only plus is that it can tell the number of threats. But, I've been running an Escort 8500 X50 for about a year and a half and love it. I plan to keep buying Escort, I don't want a bunch more falses for a tiny bit better detection and gimmicky arrows.

Also, regarding laser - it doesn't "splatter" like radar does. This means, unless the cop hits right next to the laser detector, you won't even get a reading at all. With radar, the waves bounce around off everything metallic, so you can get a reading well in advance. By the time you get an alert on your detector for laser, you're already tagged.

And, I don't know what Skooby is talking about, because I've almost gotten caught from behind before. I've had a cop come flying up on me before, and the detector saved my ***. He was probably on his way to something else, but he wasn't using lights or sirens, and I was just about to hit triple digits when the detector went off. I could have easily gotten a reckless driving citation if he decided I was worth it.

Jammers are great, but you can't use them in a lot of states. And no paint will make you invisible. Lol. That's hilarious. Besides, with laser, cops are trained to aim at the headlights or license plates (on cars) so they are guaranteed a return beam.

Mounting the detector on the swing arm is all bad. No benefit to that at all. You need a clear view of the front. Also, detectors ONLY have rear laser detection, NOT rear radar detection. They only have one radar horn to pick up scatter. Radar from a cop behind you will bounce off something or other and get picked up by the front of the unit. Chances of cops getting a good laser reading from behind you is nil.

I think he was kidding.. I hope anyway..

Not that it matters, but the coating that is used on those aircraft only asorb a small portion of the radar, it doesnt make them invisible, but it does make them appear smaller to radar. The real reason those aircraft are "invisilbe" is the design of the panels. There are no flat panels for the signal to bounce back from. The signal is sent to the aircraft, but instead of bouncing back to the radar tower, it bounces off in various directions and the signal is lost.

As for the mounting of the detector. I think I would just mount it behind your windshield.. as long as its a clear one.

I've also seen ones that you can mount under your fairing above your fender. they have a remote light that you can mount anywhere that will light up when radar is being used. Of course, this only allows the use of its detection in front of you. But, that is the most common place to get nailed from.

Well, there we go, I'll use the Radar absorbing paint, put CB1bomberR1000 on the side, and my Radar signiture will be that of a bird, what do you think?
Or...I can just Duct Tape the detector to my helmet, there...problem solved!
Putting it under the fairing was my first thought, then I checked the clearance and thought Yep, 1 wheelie and it's all done.
But I don't know what I'm guna do. I just know that if I keep forgetting to look behind before I do something stupid...which happens quite often...I'm guna get popped again and it won't be a warning next time. Of course, there's always the "Abort" option,...Run stupid...RUN!

The ultimate radar detector >>>> not speeding.

Save the redline runs for the track or strip.

I think the best answer for not getting a speeding ticket is a combination of all the suggestions...except the paint idea. If you have a good radar detector and a good idea of where the cops are, you definitely help your odds of not getting a speeding ticket. Remember though, they are very sneaky and if you get caught it is your fault. You took the chance and you got caught. Be respectful to the officer, even as he hands you the ticket.

I commute 100 miles a day to work and it is all highway. I am planning on getting a radar detector ASAP!! Seen this?

Owe ya,

Watch out for unmarked police vehicles. Last summer my buddy flew past a white cargo van at 90+mph. The van lit up and it was over! I have also seen SUV's, truck's, and Ford Escorts. Sneaky, sneaky!!

Which is another reason I'd like to get a detector, for the unmarked. I'm not saying I'm one of those riders that just zips around all the time being an a$$, but I don't actually ride a moped either.

Hey Alaska...How's the riding up there?? getta get up there one of these years!

Riding up here is fantastic! It's still a little cold for me to go on any long rides, but they are coming and I will post pics.

In the example I seen the light was set off to the side so that the rider could only see it in his/her peripheral. I like the idea of having a display where I don't have to take my eyes off the road...even for a split second. That's when bad **** happens!!
