Congrats dude.. You just started and not heavy on it and I'm sure you can achieve it. The gf part can be tough....
Smoking will always be a part of life for those heavy smokers like me. Tried couple of times to quit and I failed! Guess the will power still not strong enough...
Get rid of this crap. Its useless..

Well I do firmly believe you have to ACTUALLY want to quit before it's possible to quit. Honestly, having a friend quitting with you is a GREAT help, lets you fall on someone for help. He's my best friend, pretty much a brother, and our closest friend after is quitting too. It's one big happy quit circle...completely no homo, lol

Quitting for a few days isn't a problem to me... its just after a week or so I really start to get more stressed than I should.. :/ And I end up smoking again for a few days.. I've been trying the past month or so now and I can quit fine for about a week but then I cave for a couple of days. One thing that drives me nuts is watching an old movie or tv show with lots of characters that smoke. Well.. not to mention being around smokers does it to me too but that's one way it drives me crazy w/out being around smoke. About 2 years ago I quit when my girl at the time smoked also.. It really cut into the time that I spent with her since she'd always be doing it and I'd try to avoid it.. kinda made things difficult between us. Hope it doesn't happen with you two mate.. it'd be a shame. Only thing I can say is try not to feel like you've rewound all of the work that you put into quitting if you do cave and smoke again. Just pick up where you left off after the misstep. I sometimes feel like I've ruined the opportunity to quit by buying a pack but the last time I did that I crumpled up the pack after I'd smoked a few and threw it away with the lighter and toughed it out. I'm quitting at the moment also and it sucks man. :/ If cravings do really set in buy a pack of big red or something.. chewing gum helps me out a bit in times of weakness. I'm just waiting for the damn cravings to go away.

well went through today without a jam, kinda wanted one, but not half as bad as the first day. Been told the first day is the worst. We'll see how the rest of this week goes. I do think I might social smoke, but we'll see, I don't want to fall back into it. I have a friend whose dad has smoked idk how many years and he keeps quitting only to start back up again.
Social smoking is an outlet for weak people or people who can stand peer pressure. Thats the easiest way for you to fall back into it. If you truly want to quit for good social smoking shouldn't be on your mind at all. I know the cravings suck, they will start to go away but it takes time. After the first week it becomes easier.

Stay focused, good luck!

How does drinking factor into the quitting? I still plan on drinking every now and then

and to those who this is valid for, the same for pot? I've gone through easily 2 packs sometimes when high, other times none at all

For me it didn't get easier for some time. I smoked regularly since I was 15 until 2007 and then it took me almost all year to just quit. I would go days, weeks and even a month here and there and then one day it would just hit me. I would have a bad day, be stressed out and all of a sudden I would think I NEEDED one. The only solution is to be headstrong and make that personal decision that for your own health your are NOT smoking anymore. I had to give myself a goal and make it a competition, because I am just a very competitive person. I have friends that say even after years they will have cravings and they just have to grab a hold of some personal fortitude, man-up and resist the urge.

I think it could work, there's usually one or two one here at a time that could help out, and venting always helps too

I've never smoked a cigarette before...and never will. I have a cigar every once in a blue moon, but that's about it. Save a ton of money and am a lot healthier for it
