Default RE: Question about Titles

salvaged title means the insurance or dmv has stated that the vehicle has been in an accident/or vandalised or$ amount to fixexceeds what its worthbut is repairable and still road capable. a rebuilt title is used it various states (not all) which means that the vehicle was damaged and was put back together using oem parts and was inspected and certified . i am in ca and we dont have rebuilt titles. only salvaged and clean. a company will salvage a bike for very simple reasons even if the damage is strictly cosmetic, on the other hand a person could wreck a bike and never report it and still hold a clean title ..

bottom line dont let a title fool you check the bike out and decide from there

Default RE: Question about Titles

My dad and I have bought a few wrecked late model jeep wranglers that we fix up for fun. All of them have salvage titles and need to be inspected by the state(WI) before being licensed. However, my cousin bought himself a blazer out of some guy's backyard that had a blown engine, a tranny that had a reverse and 3 neutrals, and a torched rear end. No insurance claims were ever made so it was still a clean title.
depending on the state a salvage title or rebuilt title may be interchangable terms or have certain specific differences. You should be consulting your states DMV or whatever they happen to call it in your locale for the definitive answer. Wisconsin's page looks like this: http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/drivers...les/brands.htm
toward the bottom it has definitions of Rebuilt and Salvage title branding.

hope that helps.

Default RE: Question about Titles

blown motors, tranny problems etc don't constitute a reason to have a salvage/rebuilt title
only damage caused from a wreck

personally i'd never buy a car or bike with either
if i didn't do the work to rebuilt it then you never know for sure

Thats right just because it is clean title doesn't mean it wasn't wrecked and fixed by individual
