Default Oil change/ Chain cleaning

Changed my oil today and ran into some problems along the way. Dont know who put the last filter on but that buddy had a death grip. Took about 2 hours to finish it all up, but i prevailed.

Had to take off the right fairing thinking if i could get a better grip on the oil filter i could turn it....was wrong. So i went to auto zone and picked up a filter wrench...bad idea they dont fit small filters. Went back to auto zone and got a oil filter cap thingy that fits over it and has grip.....not any give from my old filter.

So i had to go back to auto zone once again and get a 1" socket to fit on the end of the oil filter cap thingy and bada bing bada bam....she came off.

----*** Now i have a question about the chain cleaning part, i using the shiraz guide but wanted to know if its absolutely nessecary to use chain wax.....cause i aint got none. Just got WD-40. If i have to have it gna have to jet over to the Honda stealership and pick up a can.

Yep, some of those filters can be a beatch to get off. I haven't had a problem on my CBR yet, and I use the cap wrench. A 17mm deepwell with a 3/8 extension through the front (between the fairing) has gotten it first time every time. I don't remove plastics.

As far as the chain, no you don't have to use chain wax. I've personally used it, and it's ok... but definitely not necessary.

You could just clean the chain w/ WD-40... leave a little on it... and be good. BUT, most people won't recommend WD only like that.
If you have some gear oil, you can lube it with that, too.
I'm currently using motorkote spray lube or just WD.
The important part is to keep it clean (imo) and lightly lubed up with something. Many recommend the PJ1 lube, etc. Pretty highly subjective. Doesn't have to be wax.

Autozone might carry chain lube. I know Pep Boys does.
