rrasco: All the lakes here are created when the various authorities built dams for either electricity or to create water sources. The Brazos River and Trinity River System have lots of dams, and lots of lakes. Canyon Lake was built by the US Army Corp of engineers when they dammed up the Guadalupe River in the late 50's with the Canyon Dam. Medina was built in 1911-1912 as an irrigation reservoir.

Northernfirepower: When you forcibly try to equalize by blowing too hard, you can rupture capillaries in the nose and sinuses. That's where we see the blood from.

ffingers: A rapid ascent from 20' or so won't cause a problem due to nitrogen bubbles (the bends), but can cause a problem if you're holding your breath. Abreath-holding ascent from as low as 4' after breathing compressed air and holding a full breath can cause lung overexpansion and alveolar (the little balloons in your lungs) rupture, and maybe even throw in an Arterial Gas Embolism. All bad. That's why the number one rule in scuba diving is never hold your breath.

HC: I've dove with a Draeger, pretty cool but oh so complicated.

Everybody: Let's meet in Cozumel. (Last time I was down there, amid the literally thousands of scooters, Isaw a CBR954RR and a Busa. They had to be the Kings of the Island."

I love to be on the water, but not inthe water. Sorry to hear you did not have fun, but it does sound like you were not tought well. maybe if you went with HC or someone else you would have been fine.

ORIGINAL: randyjoy

It's flying after diving that is an issue - not diving after flying. Due to nitrogen buildup from breathing compressed air at depth.

My favorite scuba spots down South were Sombrero Reef off Marathon (absolutely BEAUTIFUL... lots of tourists and not too deep but extremely good wildlife spotting...2nd largest reef in the world)

and Christ of the Abyss off Key Largo (a huge 7 ft nurse shark swam about 6 feet over my head when I was down that time)
