Oh Lord no! The lakes around here are blackwater!! I have done some recovery dives nearbyand it's like diving in chocolate milk.

We go to a quarry in Terrell; Possum Kingdom Lake is good (never seen a possum there), Lake Travis near Austin pretty good. At Travis can actually do some "tech" deep training in.

Trivia: Anybody know how many natural lakes are in Texas?

One!! Caddo in east Texas. All the rest are man-madedammed up rivers.

Appreciate you picking up my slack on the air versus Sea issue. Most of our work is done from a non-pressurized environment, but on to bigger and better things.

I have been threatening fishfryer to come down and do some diving with him. Maybe we can all hook up somewhere, sometime and get a little time in. I have a military spec rebreather, with less than a two hours on it, would love to get some use out of it sometime soon

So, I love how this thread went from SCUBA bashing to those who are sharing their passion for it!

I'd love to try it out...it'd enable you to see all sorts of things you wouldn't be able to see otherwise.

I'll have to remember NO rapid ascents!

What the...so what exactlly caused the bleeding? I've had issues with my ears and the linkage in their since I was little. Flyou, I know you fly for a living, but do you have ear issues at all or was this all caused by a bad air supply or something?

It sounds like your ears are too tight. If I know I am gonna dive I will keep them loose by equalizing a few times a day before the trip. Sometimes Afrin will help with keeping the eustation tubes loose and open.

Hardcorp, I haven't been underwater since 2006, as you may remember, my ex-wife died in a diving accident last year, so the next time I dive it will be some sissy 30 foot keys stuff like Pennecamp or Looe key. It may be a while until I do any real diving again.

i'll chime in on my love for diving although i haven't gone since last year in Jamaica...i have only logged about 15-20 dives so i am not high level by any means, but i love doing it...i have done a shark dive that was essentially a wall dive in a shark area...just Caribbean reef sharks, nothing horrible, biggest was only about 7ft....and then we did a shark feeding which was nuts...like 25-30 reef sharks and one dive master with chain mail feeding 'em....that was crazy....

i am going to the mayan riviera in may and might do a little diving in cozumel...i heard it's fantastic there, but the wife is pregnant and i feel bad leaving her on the boat (she dives too)....but we'll see....

as for why flyou started coughing up blood, that seems very odd....perhaps overly dry air....??? only because it doesn't sound like you were that deep...how deep were you when you started up...anything 30 or shallower and you shouldn't have an issue shooting up because the atms change at 33ft...i believe i am correct in that right HC? so you wouldn't really have to worry that much about a nitrogen buildup because the time and depth woudl be shallow and a lack of atm change sub 30ft shouldn't hurt bad either....but i dunno....

glad everything worked out though...it's funny, some people don't consider scuba dangerous...but it's a little nuts if you think about it...hahah

Are you saying that some of the lakes were created by man-made damns? I know down here Braunig and Calaveras are man-made, but Canyon and Medina are not. However, they do have damns and could have been created by the damn, thats the clarification I'm looking for. This is funny, because we were recently talking about this.

Canyon is murky as hell, but if you get lucky you get to see a catfish the size of a VW Beetle.
