No I'd be talkin HOK maybe some yellow with pearl and some custom cbr graphic...something along those lines. Whatever is trendy and has a currently accepted look in this crowd.

Fact is though, I dont absolutely want to HAVE to put that time in. It may be the case though. My feeling is the two bikes come up about 1000-1500 short in value as is, and it seems I was thinking right based on the responses here. I could likely gain that value on the 06, but I'd likely have 350.00 out of pocket on material and 10hrs min in labor. I've considered doing an overlay of 12k x 12k carbon fiber twill which I have 27ft of currently, or I could order 12k x 12k carbon kevlar to go with a yellow paint scheme. I've always wanted to overlay one of these motorcycle tank covers for some reason...dont' ask me why.

Well, looks like I'm gonna have to offer the guy the trade without my wheels, which have a solid value of 1100.00 or so. I think if he did it I'd take the deal, if not I wouldn't.

We'll see.

Well on the plus side if you do this for a living, or even extra cash now and then, a good custom paint job on a bike might put your name out there more.

It's a buyer's market right now as someone said, especially in winter. I doubt you'll get you'll get the value you want out of the trade. Might ask him to sweeten it with some cash. Or find more value out of what you want. You said you wanted a bike for yourself. And sounds like you have an itch to try your hand painting one.

Yeah, I was a shop owner for 8 years. I built custom forced induction setups, custom headers, EMS tuning, etc. I built cars though and have recently closed my doors due to the struggling economy. I still have all my tooling an a monster compressor that ran my shop at my house now. I could certainly paint the plastics, but in my experience people don't want to pay for what paintwork is worth. There's a ton of time involved, and I'd imagine bike people would be even more cheap due to the small size of the item your painting.

So, getting my name out there isn't really a concern for me. I'd just like to get a nice buck out of the bike to fund purchasing my vette, which is what I'm truly interested in building. The 900 for a fun weekend rider...I'd be into that for sure. Update the *** end and do a custom exhaust similar to newer designs..oh yeah.

You obviously aren't talking rattlecan since you mentioned having your own equipment. And doesn't sound like you're talking a Duplicolor Paint Shop job either, since you mention the time and effort involved. A custom paint might raise the value of the bike, with the downside of extending the time to find a buyer the new scheme appeals to.
you just hit the nail on the head, a quality paint job will make people ooh and ahh and possible even raise the value whereas a rattlecan will make people think you dumped it and needed a cheap alternative for paint.

I hope it works out for you, just be sure that you check or have these bikes checked out good before you commit to a buy

Id say don't do it, you'll absolutely regret it. The reason I say this is, your going to sell the 600rr. You will probably end up with at least 7-800 in it if your going to buy all of the supplies to do a proper paint job. then, you will also have all of your time which I would say would bring the total investment to somewhere around a grand. . At best, i can see you getting 5 grand out of it after its painted. So, your 8500 dollar trade is 4 grand in your pocket. Now, you have a rebuild titled, 900rr that you basically spent 4500 to keep. Look around and you will see the 900rr's going for 2500 all day long and without a rebuild title. You can see where you are loosing out on this deal.

Just ask yourself, if you saw the 900rr for sale, how much would spend on it? Then, however much less it is than 4500, tell the guy he needs to ante up that amount in cash with the bikes.

Dont let your want for a sportbike lead you into a bad decision. Not to mention, no matter what the economy is, its easier to sell a nice built car than it is a bike. Just my opinion though.

JMCLmorrow....gotcha...yeah, your post was informative, I just wanted to be clear those weren't assumptions I made.

Squid...I'm definitely not an emotional trader or buyer. I'll do it if it makes sense and I do my homework...hence why I'm here. The only reason I am considering it to begin with at all, is that an 06 CBR has a larger buyer market versus my car. It may allow me a means to get out of my car and get cash.

My primary worry though, is investing money into the 06 to only see a profit of 4500.00 or so, which yes, would leave me spending 4000.00 for a 98 R titled 900rr.

I feel it'll be likely the deal either won't happen, I'll be keeping my wheels which are 1100.00 real cash value, or he'll have to give me cash on top. I'll let you know. I'm going out tonight to check these bikes out and take some pics. We'll see.

Well, here is the other bike....the R title one. The guy rear ended a truck and it went slightly underneath it. There wasn't any repair damage I could really see other than the plastic isn't original and the header was rewelded on the runner closest to the camera. It's a nice bike though in person...the pic sucks.
