My wife thinks!
just google "de-gloving" of the foot..
the FIRST thing to fall off is your shoes when you crash 90% of people can kick your shoes off let alone having the force of a bike fly off.
your bones in your foot grind down on the pavement instantly and you'll never be able to walk correctly again
my feet are the LEAST place besides my head that I would skimp on riding gear.
besides..
shouldnt she be in the kitchen making you a sammich anyway? hehe jk jk

Ima start another thread on why proper gear should be worn caus my wife wants to ride but i wont let her without the right gear.
She i still iffy and tells me itll be awhile before i get some
Anytime I mention getting something, my wife goes out and buys it. Sometimes its good, sometimes its bad as she usually gets the wrong thing or wrong size.
Just make sure thats not the case.

Seem like she should *want* to be buying you as much protective gear as possible. That is, if she cares about you...which the burrito clearly indicates. ;-)
The .mil boots are better than nothing but not much in the way of ankle protection.
Good luck.
