My first ticket...
I've only been riding on the street for around 6 weeks here and I received my first ticket ever on my cbr600rr... Was it for speeding? For reckless riding? No. It was for not having the reflector on the back of my motorcycle. In the process of going through my paperwork he also got me for riding on the freeway with only a permit. I know, stupid move on my part. I have changed my fender eliminator to now have a reflector on it but I'm wondering... does anyone know of a fender eliminator that sits right below the exhaust that has a reflector? Or just one that sits under the exhaust that isn't $100 and includes the turn signals? Or am I just stuck with manufacturing my own? I do not want the stock fender. That thing is U-L-G-Y.

As you can see, my license plate is also being held on by only one screw... I think I'm due for a new fender eliminator anyways...

That's dumb I've never even heard of that I've never had a reflector on the back of my bike, and if you have a permit here just no night riding no passengers and have to have a helmet.
Would reflector license plate screws satisfy the cops? Do a Google search for reflector license plate screws - there are lots of choices.
Here's an inexpensive set from Grainger: Reflective Fasteners, Red, PK2

I think I'll look into those reflector bolts. Even if they're not legal, they're much more aesthetically pleasing than my makeshift fender eliminator.
Does anyone know a fender eliminator that hangs down below the exhuast that doesn't already have lights? I like the turn signals I have, I just need a new bracket to hold it all. I don't want to get pulled over for the license plate hiding behind the rear wheel either.

Try searching the interwebs? I'm pretty sure there are millions of fender-eliminator kits out there.
Will they meet the street legal criteria you're looking for? Maybe, maybe not. Stuff that like typically isn't street legal, the stock stuff is. Typically you can find aftermarket stuff that qualifies as being street legal, but you'll have to look harder.
My buddy got one, I think from HotBodies, that looks really nice. However, it doesn't have reflectors and my state doesn't require it.
Back on point, what you should really do is look up the law and find out what exactly you'll need to have in order to be street legal, and use that as a starting point. No point spending money on stuff that's just going to get you another ticket anyway. The motorcycle handbook they give you when you apply for a motorcycle license should have all that stuff, if not visit your state's DOT or DMV website and look around there. All else fails you could just walk into the DMV and ask.
Then you'll know whether or not those reflector screws qualify, or if you have to look for something else.

Hotbodies is non-dot as most others, will be hard to find a dot approved fender eliminator. Cali is pretty rough when it comes to anything non dot. Also most fender eliminators I have seen for the 600rr put the plate pretty far under the tail.
Well I think I fixed it. I cut the broken tab off and bend the plate holding the license plate at a 90 degree angle. I then drilled holes through the bracket that attaches to the bike and through the license plate piece. Just attached them with a couple of bolts and there we go! The only thing is that I think it hangs really low. Should it be okay? Or should I raise it up just a little bit. There is some room, I just have to drill some new holes.

I also plan to put in a couple of those LED bolts through the top of the license plate. I'm not so good with wiring. Could someone help me with that? I've tried google and youtube already.
