Most effective national (US) safety measure?
#42
JHouse, here in Philadelphia the people that have gotten their licenses revoked have found a loophole: scooters. Under a certain engine size and they don't need to have a license (not sure what size).
Let's just say its the skill of the cagers that's keeping Philadelphia from becoming a scooter graveyard

I'm not a big fan of government mandating any of these solutions, but I still like most of them as long as they remain a choice.
The idea of wearing protective gear (including helmets) makes perfect sense to me. I've just gotten back into biking this year, and my priority has been on gear before go faster goodies. Like I really need better than 4lbs/hp anyway. But of course, I understand the desire for more and the temptation to focus dollars on performance before things that makes riding safer. I've ridden without a helmet, but never really felt comfortable doing so.
I really want to go to a track based driving school so I like the education solution, too. Honestly, my motivation is more based on fun than safety, but there's nothing wrong with two for one.
As for the engine size restrictions .... Two words... Harley Davidson. My first street bike was 700CC VFR precisely because of HD. If not for them it would have been a 750 for the same price. I can't see the politicians doing anything in the US that would hurt HD like this would.
I chose the Darwinian solution, I guess I don't have any problem with people risking their own butts so long as doing so doesn't jeapordize the safety of others.
