To each their own. It only hurts them not you. I can care less if others ride with sandals on, its not my feet.
We all have our opinions on what a squid is and is not, these are just our opinions on the subject at hand. Like me I feel that if your going to be a gear **** you need to be wearing full leathers to be a preacher.

I think most of those vids and pics are shown more as examples of what NOT to do. Hence all of the sarcasm in all the remarks.
We all have a choice in how we enjoy our sport. Some do it in full gear, others not. What I wear affects only me. I know the consequences of riding with shorts, and a t-shirt. Which is why I don't do it. If you choose to do that so be it. Your choice, your skin. Don't ask for my sympathy when they have to scrub/clean the roadrash. Everyone has a choice, and an opinion.
For actions done while riding, no one is truly an innocent personriding the type of bikes we ride. Everyone has gone faster than needed, done a wheelie, or plain and simple something stupid. It happens. The safer and more responsible rider will let these moments of insanity take hold when there are less, or even better no innocent bystanders. These are the ones who are truly bike riders who ride for the personal gratification. Squids who do burnouts and wheelies in traffic or populated areas want the attention. These are the ones unfurtunately that give us our image. Because these are the riders that are in the publics face. They are also the ones that bring negative attention to everyone on a sport bike from local law enforcement.
This forum is a place for everyone to express opinions, and advice. Whether it's agreed with or not. Icome hereto see what others opinions are for things, and to express my own. If you don't agree with me tell me. I'll justify my POV, and you yours. Personally I like it when people tell me things straight up (Like TheX), pull no punches, tell me how you really feel.
As for setting an example, there are too many riders out there, you can't help everyone. If you're lucky you hook upwith the more responsible riders, who ride with gear, push the limits in not so populated areas. Or you end up riding with squids.
Just my .02

Hi and welcome to our humble home tjahr08
I understand what you are getting at and asHAVOC said, if you have concerns you will be able to talk them over with one the big boys
(they are only a little bit scarry!!! [:-])
I also think, that most that are regulars here, promote the use of gear at all times...
Every one has a ding dong momentary lapse of reason ( Pink Floyd - great album[8D] ) so many have stories of evil doings and not so safe behavior.. ...
but...
No one should stop someone from telling his... or her ( sorry Jules :-) funny or not so funny tales about the crash he had in thongs wearing a bathing suit in 110 degree temp after a few drinks mate, nor really has anyone the right to stop them .... so I do not know how the Mods would go about that issue if it bothered you..
Not that I am promoting that sort of behavior I might add ...
Good to see you care in either case

On a more serious note, I myself choose to wear gear as I see it is stacking the deck in my favor. We already have the odds stacked against us when we are out riding as we don't have the luxury of being surrounded by metal, no seatbelts/air bags etc. Therefore, to ME, it's common sense to try and do what I can to better my odds while out riding. Things like proper riding gear, bike maintenance, riding style/habbits etc all can contribute to your odds of surviving or getting into a wreck. But again this is my oppinion as to how I should ride/behave. I have not nor will I ever push my ideas onto another person (unless they are putting others at risk rather than just themselves). I will however point and laugh as I see fit, because that too is my right.

Now where did I put that thong and my baby oil, I have some freeway stunting to do....
